Bag a hole in one at Southwind
and knock a big hole in crime

If you're a golfer, one great way to fight crime just might be hitting a hole-in-one shot at the 8th hole at TPC Southwind on September 30 this year at the third annual CrimeStoppers Golf Tournament.

Jim Keras Chevrolet has put up a Chevy Blazer worth $30,000 for the first person to cup the ball in one swing. It is 165 yards to the cup for men; 150 for women. The dealership also is putting up prizes for holes in one on three other holes along the course.

The tournament is one of two fundraising events held by the Board of Directors of CrimeStoppers each year. Proceeds pay awards to citizens who have helped solve crimes during the year with information they give CrimeStoppers anonymously.

"Every dollar we make at this tournament will help fight crime and put away felony criminals," said Buddy Chapman, the organization's executive director.

Just a month ago, the World Cup event was held at Southwind to great reviews.

The other prizes offered by Jim Keras this year include:

 - One-year supply of Bridgestone golf balls (12 dozen) for a hole in one on the fourth hole.

- A luxurious four-day and three-night golf vacation at French Lick Resort for a hole in one on the 11th.

- A $500 gift certificate for a Travis Mathew "head to toe signature outfit" shopping spree at TravisMathew.com for a hole in one on 14.

More than a dozen other sponsoring companies are helping to make the tournament a success. They include: Phelps Security, Value Logistics, Dillard Door, Watkins Uiberal, Herbi-Systems, Splash Creative, Gary and Frances Paulson, TBC Corporation, Wolfchase Toyota, Impact Brokerage, Outback Steakhouse, Phelps Electric, State Systems, Inc. and an Anonymous Company.

Sponsorships start at $300 for a hole with signage. For full sponsorship information email info@crimestopmem.org.

To sign up a 4-person team to play in this year's tournament visit our website. Start time is 9:30 a.m. Lunch and beverages are included in the price.

How CrimeStoppers Works

CrimeStoppers produced a video this year to tell the story of how, with the help ofcitizens, we aid law enforcement agencies in their efforts to fight crime.

The video was first shown at Playhouse On The Square in May at our Night At The Theatre fundraising event with a performance of Cabaret.

You can see our film on YouTube and on the CrimeStoppers web site.

We wish to thank the MPD for its help in the making of the video.

CrimeStoppers
by the
(growing) numbers

The number of tips awarded by our Awards Committee has been increasing over the last dozen months as CrimeStoppers continues to tell its story and works hard to involve the community in crime-fighting efforts.

The committee meets monthly and makes a cash award whenever it determines information from a citizen helped make it possible for law enforcement personnel to make an arrest.

For July 35 separate citizen tips were awarded. In those cases 40 arrests were made and 32 open criminal cases were shut by the Memphis Police Department.

Awards ranged from $150 to $1,000 in a first degree murder case.

A total of $14,200 was approved for payment.

The payments are made at secret locations each month. Recipients are identified only by a code.

Websites continue
to build awareness

CrimeStoppers and its many programs are explained - and the public is engaged - in various places on the internet.

Our main website explains the organization's purpose, and keeps count on major cases in which police need help from citizens -   crimestopmem.org.

A companion site helps students keep their schools safer -   trustpays.org.

Senior citizens who are afraid or otherwise need help can find information they can use at another site -

Spanish-speaking citizens can learn about CrimeStoppers on a fourth site -

Because the theft of copper and other metals has become a major problem in the metro area we launched CopperStoppers:

Now the public can view the list of current fugitives, including photos on our newest site - memphismostwanted.org
