Moral Grandeur and Spiritual Audacity
This High Holy Day season the Temple Israel community will dive into a collection of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel's important essays, entitled Moral Grandeur and Spiritual Audacity. This essential collection captures the best of Heschel's thought and speaks directly to the spiritual, political, and moral issues of our day.  We will be using the d'vrei Torah during the Shabbatot of Elul to lift up essential ideas from this book and then we will have the opportunity join together in communal study during Slichot and Yom Kippur afternoon.  All are invited to flip through this book of essays to find what is personally meaningful, or to follow our suggested study guide found HERE .
Clergy Thoughts: Rabbi Jen Gubitz
In Heschel's chapter on Pikuach Neshama: To Save a Soul, he writes these profound word that lead us in asking quintessential questions of the High Holy Days and help us frame our very being within the fabric of humanity:

"The human being is uniquely graced with the ability to search the soul and reflect.  For what purpose am I alive? Does my life have a meaning, a reason? Is there a need for my existence? Will anything on earth be impaired by my disappearance? Would my absence create a vacuum in the world? And if we say that there would be a void and an impairment in the world, and that this means that my life has value beyond its simple existence, is it incumbent upon me to fulfill a purpose in this life? Do I exist that I might build or restore?"

When we search our souls and reflect on our relationships and sense of self, we discover that the answer is YES - we matter in the world. We humans are builders and restorers or truth, love, and peace. And the world needs us and will never be the same without us. You matter.
ambassAmbassadors and Doctors in the House
In order to foster a welcoming environment for the High Holy Days, Temple Israel is seeking High Holy Day Ambassadors and Doctors in the House. Ambassadors greet congregants and guests with warmth and kindness while Doctors in the House will be stationed in each service for any medical emergencies. Both are welcome to attend the service time and color of their choosing. We are seeking both seasoned Ambassadors and Doctors, as well as those who would be joining us for the first time this year. To register of for more information, please contact Dekel Luban.

Supporting the Religious School
We all thank you for your continued support of the Friends Annual Fund this summer. Your heart may still be on the beach this August, but here at TI we are preparing for the return of our students. Among the many opportunities that your gifts to the Friends Annual Fund support, they also ensure the accessibility of our religious education to working families with an after school program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your generosity has filled the halls of TI with opportunity, learning, and laughter. Continuing this work allows us to fulfill our mission of Living Judaism Together.  Please help us to sustain this effort for another school year with a gift to the Friends Annual Fund.  Learn more or donate here!
