Vaccine Eligibility Expands in Marin

As of April 1 vaccine eligibility has expanded to those age 50 and over. All residents over age 16 will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination by April 15.

“As vaccines supplies slowly increase, it’s the right time to widen the invitation to more of our residents,” said Dr. Matt Willis, Marin’s Public Health Officer. “At the same time, we still have nearly 100,000 residents to vaccinate, and that won’t happen all at once. We’re on track to get to everyone before June, but we’ll need to be patient.”

Peri Park Renovation is Under Way!

After much planning, fundraising and selection of structures, the renovation begins this week. The park will be closed from today, April 5th until April 18th as we demo the old structures and the new structures are delivered and installed.
We feel so fortunate that the Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) was able to find Bear Playgrounds to build us structures that reflect the unique nature of Peri Park. Our new structures are in their early stages of assembly in the warehouse and will be heading our way later this week.
Police Chief Selection Process

The Town is conducting an internal recruitment for Police Chief. The process entails interviewing Interim Police Chief Rico Tabaranza. A 7-member community interview panel is being formed to include: one Volunteer Board member, one Racial Equity and Social Justice Committee (RESJ) member, one Police Practices and Public Safety Alternatives subcommittee (PPPSA) member, one Chamber of Commerce representative, one business representative, and two at-large members. Each of the groups above will name their own representative to the panel. For the two at-large members, the Town is accepting applications by April 13th.

To fill out an application to serve as an at-large member of the panel, Click Here.

The Town is also conducting a community survey to: a) ask for comments regarding qualities in a police chief, b) allow for the submittal of questions for the interim Police Chief, and c) allow for comments regarding rethinking and reimagining police services for the PPPSA to discuss and consider.

Redwood Clean Up in Peri Park
Sunday, April 11th
10am to noon
Peri Park Redwood Grove

Please join the Fairfax Volunteers and Ray Moritz, our local tree expert, for an outdoor volunteer project in Peri Park. Ray will show us how to clear small growths around the redwoods in the park and improve the trees' overall health. We had about eight volunteers for the first day, and enjoyed the out of doors together, while improving Peri Park.

Each person is responsible for their own cutting tools and protective equipment. They should be prepared to be working on their knees.

Ray recommends:

- Knee pads or something soft to kneel on.
- Work gloves, like "gardening gloves" or construction gloves.
- Eye protection.
- A full water bottle
- a face mask
- Hand shears
- loppers
- a small hand rake or something to pull pieces out of the basal sprout clump
- a small handsaw for cutting brush
Fairfax Recreation
Outdoor Yoga with Veronica will continue outside in Bolinas Park on Mondays when weather allows with masks and distance protocols. Click here for more info.

Summer Camps with Fairfax Recreation!

We’re on our way to getting back to “normal” but we’re not quite there yet so our camp and class sizes are still reduced capacity and masks and social distancing are required from instructors and participants. For this reason, we do expect spaces to fill up quickly. We are following all state and county guidelines regarding youth activity programs and will consider expanding capacity if the guidelines are changed. That means it’s even more important to register for the waitlist for any programs that fill up too quickly! Any spaces that do open up will first be filled from the waitlist.
Application Period Now Open for Rent Relief

Renters: The online application period is now open for Marin County renters who have experienced economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local landlords: have a choice to accept 80% of unpaid rent owed between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, in exchange for forgiving the remaining 20%. If a landlord chooses not to accept the offer, tenants may still apply for relief valued at 25% of unpaid back rent owed for the covered period.

If you need assistance with the online application, you may call 415-473-2223 or email RentalAssistance@MarinCounty.org to learn more about the Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
