Thailand Eyeglass Outreach
...Giving Sight to the Blind in Jesus' Name
Late last month, CPI National Pastor Jay Orata & his family wrapped up their summer visit to the USA and headed home to their church & ministry in Chiang Rai, Thailand. While in the States, the Oratas received advanced training on how to utilize CPI’s prescription eyeglass system for optical screening in northern Thailand.

Through the ministry’s generous supporters, CPI donated a brand new Welch Allyn Vision Screener, hundreds of pairs of eyeglasses, and CPI Scrubs & T-Shirts for the Thai church’s eyeglass outreach. And in just the first two weeks after returning to Thailand, word around Chiang Rai spread that the church had the capacity to provide eyeglass screenings. As a result, 30 first-time visitors came out to the church for Sunday morning services and eyeglass screenings, and 7 of those visitors made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ!

And now the church’s eyeglass ministry is reaching far beyond the boundaries of the city of Chiang Rai. On Saturday, September 14 th , 29 volunteers from Pastor Jay’s church headed out to the district of Chiang Khong, a mountainous area in the far-reaches of the Chiang Rai province, close to the border of Laos.

In the Chiang Khong distict, there are several villages where the Hmong people live. The Hmong are one of the isolated Hill Tribes that live in the mountains of northern Thailand. Most Hmong villages are not open to outsiders, and many of the native people there do not speak Thai. But by God’s grace, the Lord opened the door for Pastor Jay’s church to minister to the Hmong through their eyeglass outreach.

The church served 77 patients, many who were elders in the community. The Hmong women were so excited to receive reading glasses so they could once again create their beautiful embroidery work. And of the 77 patients, the hope of the Gospel was shared with each one. As a result, 24 souls came to know Jesus Christ, including the husband of the village shaman.

On November 9 th , Pastor Jay and his church have an invitation to visit another Hill Tribe village. Please pray for this exciting outreach, and for Pastor Jay and his church workers, as God is using the gift of sight to deliver the message of the free gift of salvation through His Son.

“And great multitudes came unto Him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them:” Matthew 15:30

In Loving Memory of Norma Lang Marroquin
Remembering our dear Sister in Christ

Late last night, Norma Lang Marroquin passed away into the arms of her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. For many years, Norma has served with our Caring Partners medical mission teams through her church in Guatemala City, Sembradores de Vida. Norma was even able to come to the USA last October, blessing us with a special visit here at our ministry facility in Ohio.

Norma was an excellent cook, and used her gift of hospitality to always lavish our mission teams with her wonderful Guatemalan dishes, including her special Pepian. She was a woman of incredible faith, with a passion to share the Gospel, as she almost always served in our Clinics of the Soul, leading hundreds of people to faith in Jesus Christ through the years.

On behalf of the Board of Caring Partners International, our Missionaries, and our Guatemalan Team Members, we extend our deepest sympathies and our heartfelt condolences to her son Sergio, her daughter Mary and family, to Pastor Fernando & Schwanda and family, and to the entire body of Sembradores de Vida. Truly, our loss on this earth is Heaven's gain!
