Fishing Report and Photos

We were super busy the months of June and July 2019 here at our remote upscale island lodge 12 miles off the Pacific coast of Panama.

The fishing action both months was intense to say the least! We took a week off in mid July as Capt. Shane went to Orlando, Florida for the ICAST tackle convention to catch up with all our great sponsors...but other than that we hosted groups pretty much back to back...most days running both of our 33' World Cat catamarans .

Just some of the past couple of month's highlights...we had many days offshore with huge bait balls boat-side with busting Tunas and Dorados, Black Marlin battles at Hannibal Bank, and a visit from the Discovery Channel's show 'Deadliest Catch' Capt. The abundance of bait offshore the past few months has really been amazing! The Humboldt current that pushes up into the Gulf of Chiriqui really brought some nutrient rich water that was holding lots of bait. Spotting birds with our SIMRAD radar was the trick as they would lead us to the pods of Porpoises that were herding the huge schools of bait into concentrated areas to feed. When we did find the Porpoises feeding we usually found the Tunas not far behind! The Porposies and Tunas on a few occasions had the bait so stacked up that we were able to scoop them up boat-side with our net!!!

We had many days catching so many Tunas...believe it or not...up to 63

in one day....that we wound up keeping only a few and releasing most of them! Our clients had some furious action doing battle on our Accurate Reels and Blackfin Rods...casting Yo-Zuri poppers and swimbaits to boiling Tunas and Dorados! And o ur heavy duty MUSTAD swivels, split rings, and hooks did an awesome job as anyone who has been here knows that these fish pull hard!!!
