Greetings, families!
I am excited for the upcoming season at the York Y! Below you will find all the information about practices for the Advanced, Novice, and Pre-team groups at the GAC. I have also included Southern families on this to keep everyone in the loop.
You should have all received information from Coach John yesterday with all the group schedules as well as some other important info. Keep an eye out for more information coming your way in the next few days/weeks with regard to the season.
I know many kids head back to school next week, and I myself head back for teacher inservice next week and my students begin on 8/26. We will be easing the swimmers back into the routine, so the first 2 weeks will be slightly different! Please take note:
Weeks of 8/19 and 8/26 for groups at the GAC:
Preteam: Wed. 8/21 and 8/28 only, 6:00-6:45 PM (OFF on Saturday 8/24 and 8/31. Please note- we are going back to Wed/Sat practices and not Fridays like we did in the summer). The first Sat. practice will be on 9/7.
Novice: Mon/Tue/Thu 5:45-6:45 PM
(OFF on Fridays 8/23 and 8/30)
Advanced: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu 6:45-8:00 PM
(OFF on Fridays 8/23 and 8/30)
NO PRACTICE FOR ALL GROUPS ON LABOR DAY, 9/2!
Normal Schedule begins on 9/3:
Preteam: Wed 6:00-6:45 PM, Sat. 10:00-10:45 AM
Novice: Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 5:45-6:45 PM**
Advanced: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri 6:45-8:00 PM**
COMBINED PRACTICES for Novice & Advanced from GAC and Southern
2nd Monday of the month- 6:00-7:30 PM at the GAC
3rd Monday of the month- 6:00-7:30 PM at Southern
(Please note there are
NO combined practices in August, so 8/19 is normal at the GAC)
**Novice and Advanced have dryland workouts they can complete prior to the practice time, though this is not noted in the practice schedule. We usually do dryland 10-15 minutes before practice starts, so if swimmers arrive in time, they can complete it. Our Advanced swimmers really bought into the dryland program last season and seemed to enjoy it, while getting stronger in the process. I will be having Novice do this more as well. Ideally, swimmers are on deck at least 10 minutes before practice starts, however I know due to school and work schedules and traffic, it is sometimes difficult. Please do your best to get them there early, and please remind your child to be quick about getting on deck as some have a tendency to dawdle in the locker room.
As Coach John said, the meet schedule will be coming soon. I have not seen it yet, so I do not know the dates of anything yet but we should hopefully get that to you all shortly.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I hope you all enjoy what is left of summer, and I look forward to seeing our awesome swimmers soon!
