Message from Grace Lindvall            Friday, August 9, 2019

Dear friends,

Eve, Ruth, Esther, Deborah, Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene.

Some of the familiar women of the Bible. Throughout the Bible, women play important roles. Sometimes they are major characters, sometimes they are named, sometimes not. Among this amazing list of women are these two minor characters, two women whose names never come to light again, two women whose names you likely have not heard, Shiphrah and Puah.

Their names are not well known but their story is amazing. This Sunday, we will read the story of Shiphrah and Puah, two amazing women who find that God calls them to bold acts of faith.

Our topic of the day, "Faith and Women," may invite us to consider what our faith has to say about the role of women, but perhaps more importantly, it invites us to learn how the women of our faith teach us about God and teach us about being faithful disciples.

We will learn about Shiphrah and Puah, and how their faith teaches us about our faith. We also will celebrate baptisms and gather together as a community in need of healing words of peace and words of challenge. In addition, a n environmental justice panel on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall will show us ways to respond as concerned Christians.

I look forward to gathering with you this weekend.
