This past weekend, two coaches from one of our younger teams were unable to attend the game. Two of our older middle school GVBL-ers, stepped in to get the assist.
Not sure if they secured the "W" but all had great fun in another competitive GVBL weekend.
Thanks, girls! Love our GVBL community!

Covid-19:
GVBL will continue following the guidance of the state, Chester County and the schools in which we are participating. In early December we posted, and subsequently messaged, the masking policy on the www.gvco.org website. It is included on the basketball news & updates section. As an organization we heavily rely on the state, county and school district's due diligence and direction/guidance with all of our health and safety decision making. This will continue to be how we operate with regard to Covid protocols going forward.

The Hive lost a tough game to Springford 38-28, down 12 headed into the 4th quarter, the Hive roared back to a 1 point lead with 1:50 to play; GVMS was rocking!
Watch a brilliant 3 pointer:
|
|
While the Hive ultimately fell to the height of Springford, the girls all fought hard and played well. The team was led by offensively by Cecilia Chain with 10 points and Callie Cole with 8 points. Defensively Hailey Shaughnessy and Katelyn Diamond were standouts. There was some terrific defense and many hustle plays by all of the girls that resulted in scoring opportunities and baskets.
The Hive has a lot of work ahead of them and will practice hard this week. We play an exceptional Division 1 ICBA opponent Friday evening at General Wayne, followed but two tough opponents on Sunday in Springfield and Torresdale.
|
|
The Storm returned to action this past weekend winning both of its games played. On Sunday, the team played against Audubon in ICBA action and won handily by a score of 43-17, improving its ICBA record to 2-0. Ava Hall paced the team with 12 points and 6 steals. Kate Weikert chimed in 11 points, included a couple of three-point buckets. In the Malvern game the Storm picked up a 35-27 victory over Lower Merion. Lauren Chain dropped in 10 points and 4 rebounds and Sophia Kauler chipped in 9 points and 3 rebounds. The Storm will have two ICBA games and a Malvern contest coming up this weekend.

GVCO Ends 2021 Right Where It Started The Year...Giving Back.
In early December GVCO partnered with GWES PTO and their winter coat drive. As you are aware it was a tremendous success, with 125 winter coats being donated. The goal was to redistribute the donated coats locally to those in need. In mid December GVCO was connected to some administrators at Devereux Behavioral Health Services, who has multiple locations in the area. They were very excited and very much in need of the coats.
|
|
After a few emails with the admin office in Devon, we were e-introduced to some programming coordinators at both Devereux's locations on Sugartown Rd and also their Boot Rd community. It was a great fit as they collaborated and determined each individual need for each coat.
On New Year's Eve day the coats were delivered, and distributed New Years Day weekend! Devereux was very appreciative and thought it was a tremendous undertaking and donation. Kudo's to the GWES PTO and the Great Valley community for their geneosity and support.

Volunteers are the cornerstone of the Great Valley Community Organization and Vince McAneney is no exception. Vince and his wife, Debbie first got involved when their children participated in GVBL and the Challenger Gym Program. Scott continued to play GVBL straight through to the High School League while Erica & Shannon volunteered to become Buddies for the Challenger Gym Program and Ryan donated his shredding services at R-Mobile Shredding to numerous GVCO fundraisers.
When GVCO started GVFL, Vince jumped right in to coach his son Scott and his buddies. A year later he became President of the league and held that position for 7+ years, stepping down at the end of the 2018 season. His fondest memory was when he coached with his son Scott – such a great experience for father and son. Vince hopes that others in the community would take advantage of all the great things GVCO is doing and use those opportunities as a way to further connect with their own kids and the entire Great Valley Community. Vince believes that time invested in our youth is never wasted and encourages anyone thinking of making a bigger commitment to GVCO, whether through volunteering or donating, to “Just Do It”.
