McKenzie County labor force tops 10,000

There were 10,085 people in McKenzie County's labor force in June 2019 according to Job Service North Dakota. That is the second highest labor force number recorded for McKenzie County--its highest was 10,148 in January 2015.

Neighboring Williams County's highest labor force number was 33,011 in October 2014, and June 2019 was 25,829; and North Dakota's highest was 421,880 in June 2015, and June 2019 was 412,643.
August Economy at a Glance now available

August's economy at a glance is now available. Some data of note:
  • McKenzie County's labor force topped 10,000--near an all-time record high.
  • Year to date city sales tax distribution is up over $400,000 for Watford City. It is currently at $2.7 million where last year at this time it was at $2.3 million.
Welcome to Watford Celebration returns for 2019

Over 500 people attended the 2018 Welcome to Watford celebration, and organizers are hoping for another similar turnout this year. Kids activities, local organizations, door prizes, food, and more are all planned for this free event that runs from 4:30pm-6:45pm at the Rough Rider Center on Friday September 20. Local organizations and businesses are encouraged to participate by reserving a table.
Upcoming Job Fair

Job seekers and potential employers will be meeting at the NW North Dakota Semi-Annual Job Fair on Wednesday, September 11 from 2-6pm at the Raymond Family Community Center in Williston.

Jamaican restaurant opens

Another restaurant has joined our community. Island Kitchens & Grill describes themselves as a Jamaican/Caribbean restaurant that specializes in good fresh island food. The are located at 722 Main St #1, and are open 11am-10pm.
War in Watford City

NAHL Hockey is coming to Watford City Sept 13th & 14th! The game will be filled with D-1 college hockey prospects from both teams. The series will be known as “The War in Watford City” with the Minot Minotauros playing the Bismarck Bobcats. The game will be sure to showcase lots of talent and competition between two rivals! You won’t want to miss out on this event! Get your tickets online or pick them up in person and the Rough Rider Center front desk while they last.
McKenzie County Senior Day Expo

Services available to seniors- those 55 and older in McKenzie County will be showcased at the first-ever McKenzie County Senior Day Expo . Local organizations and businesses will be in attendance and local professionals wil speak on a variety of topics including Health Education, Family Caregiver Support, Senior Safety program, Wealth Management, Estate Planning, Probate Law, Medicare, Medicaid, Long Term Care insurance information, Pharmacy/Medication options, and more. The Looney Lutherans, a comedic group from the Twin Cities, will be providing entertainment for the event. The event will be held from 1-6pm on Saturday, September 7th at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Watford City.
Workshop offered at Rough Rider Center

More training opportunities are coming to our community. The Intro to Project Management course is designed for anyone who is seeking a better process to manage projects. Participants will experience an overview of the five stages of project management while working through a simulation. The workshop will be held from 5:30-9:30pm in the Rough Rider Center classroom on September 11 th
North Dakota Petroleum Conference Annual Meeting

The 2019 North Dakota Petroleum Council's annual meeting will be held at the Rough Rider Center September 17-19. Hundreds are expected to attend. Find more information here.
Women's Day: September 14

Amberley Snyder has been announced as the keynote for the 2019 McKenzie County Healthcare Systems Women's Day. Snyder is a champion barrel racer who has overcome a car crash injury that has left her paralyzed from the waist down. The day begins at 9 AM on September 14 with a 5K Fun Run. A vendor market will be available throughout the day from 10 AM - 2 PM. With the keynote scheduled for 12:15 PM at the Rough Rider Center.
