COMPUTER CLUB ADVISOR NEEDED NOW!
The PTSA is sponsoring a computer club at IS for the third year. There are 40 students interested in being a part of the computer club, however, we need an advisor or two to volunteer their help in order to keep it going. The time commitment is once per week for an evening meeting.

MAKERSPACE DONATIONS NEEDED
The library’s Makerspace is requesting donations of supplies to support projects. Donations can be placed in the large yellow box marked “Makerspace Donations” located by the top of the gym stairs in the Commons.
Thank you in advance for donations!

SPIRIT WEEK IS
THIS WEEK!
10/28–11/1—WOOT WOOT!
Spirit Week is a series of events leading up to Homecoming where students show their school spirit by dressing up. Each grade level will compete and collect “spirit points” when they participate in the events. We tally the number of students participating and the winners are announced on Friday of Spirit Week. We will have a first place for middle school grades and a first place for high school grades. Typically, the winners receive donuts!

Wear your favorite pajamas, and if you have them, don't forget your slippers!

HOMECOMING DANCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

At International School, Homecoming is the first dance of the year and a big welcome back to the high school students outside of school. This dance is only for high school students.
Buy your tickets in the Front Office early!
FAQs for Homecoming:
- Do I need to have a date or bring a date? No. Some students may have dates, but it is not a requirement. Some students opt to go as a group of friends. It is up to you!
- Will there be dinner served? No, we will only have sodas, chips, and candies. Sometimes, students will go to dinner together before coming to the dance.
- Where can I purchase tickets? You may purchase tickets in the Front Office or Attendance Office now! Ticket prices are $13 with an ASB card and $15 without an ASB card. You may also buy tickets at the door for $15, regardless of ASB.
- Can students bring guests from outside of International School? Yes, students may bring guests from outside of International School, but you must complete and turn in the guest form by Thursday, October 31, at 3:30 PM. Guest forms may be picked up in the Front Office. Please do not procrastinate on this!
- Will there be photos at the dance? Unfortunately, we will not have official photographers for Homecoming. We will have photographers for TOLO in December and Prom in June.
- Will there be chaperones? Yes, we have staff and parent/guardian chaperones for all our dances to keep our students safe. If you are interested in being a chaperone for a dance, please e-mail Arty Christianto at christiantoa@bsd405.org.

DO YOU WANT A VOICE IN DECIDING FUTURE CURRICULUM FOR OUR 6TH & 7TH GRADERS?
If the answer is yes, keep reading! The 6th and 7th grade Human Geography curriculum will begin the process of textbook adoption shortly. The committee needs an International School parent to serve on the committee and provide a community/parent perspective. The process will begin in December and end in June. The committee will meet at International School a few times throughout the year to preview and discuss textbooks under consideration. The time commitment is about 15-20 hours total, including time at home reading.

AP exam registration is in process!
Fees are available to pay online through

Payment is due on 11/1, and exams will be ordered based on payment by the deadline.
Even if a student registers for a test but does not pay by 11/1, a test will not be ordered for them.
Late orders incur a $40 late fee per exam from College Board.

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are falling, and the holidays are around the corner. It’s time for our ANNUAL SENIOR CLASS POINSETTIA & WREATH FUNDRAISER!
Poinsettias from Squak Mountain Nursery in Issaquah come in red, white, or shades of pink for $20 each.

Wreaths, also from Squak Mountain, are 24 inches in diameter with ornamental pine cones and sell for $25 each. Add an optional holiday bow for $2.

These beautiful plants are the perfect holiday gift for friends, neighbors, and co-workers! They also serve as festive holiday decor for your office or home in bunches, or as a table centerpiece to last throughout the holiday season!
You can also order a poinsettia for a teacher or staff member as a holiday gift! What better way to show your appreciation for all that they do for our IS students? You may buy one for a designated teacher/staff member, or order for the staff pool and we’ll make sure that all the teachers receive one of these beautiful plants. We need your participation!
All proceeds go to the IS Senior Class to help with costs of Graduation Festivities!

DISCUSSION OF BDS'S NEW SIGNS OF SUICIDE PROGRAM
Two sessions are offered,
both sessions are in the Rainier Room at WISC

Deborah Kraft, the Director of K-12 Counseling for the Bellevue School District, will be leading a discussion on the Bellevue School District’s new Signs of Suicide (SOS) program. The presenters will explain the use of universal screeners and how they are used in BSD schools in Grade 10. This suicide prevention program is being implemented in all of Bellevue’s public secondary schools. Deborah will be joined by a panel that includes program staff and Middle and High School counselors. They will be discussing how the program works, how staff are trained to implement it, and how it fits into the existing mental health unit.
The discussion will be followed by a question and answer period.

FENTANYL CRISIS: COMMUNITY INFORMATION SESSIONS
With the tragic deaths of three students in our neighboring school districts of Issaquah and Seattle from the deadly opioid fentanyl, the Bellevue School District is hosting two community information sessions to help our community respond.
The information sessions—held with our partners the Bellevue Police Department and Youth Eastside Services—will allow parents, students, and community members to learn what is being done to protect our children and, in turn, what actions we can all take.

HIGH SCHOOL ULTIMATE FRISBEE
Boys Team in Playoffs!
The boys team finished the season 5-6 and qualified for league playoffs! With a semifinal loss to Seattle Waldorf (13-9) and victory against Raisbeck Aviation (11-8), they placed third overall in the league with an opportunity for entry into the state championship bracket.
Girls Ultimate Frisbee!
We're getting ready for the upcoming Winter (co-ed) and Spring (girls) seasons. Practices start in late November for the co-ed season. Weekend games begin in the early December, take a break over the holidays, and resume in January. The co-ed season ends mid-February.

WESTERN AEROSPACE SCHOLARS
Over 200
high school juniors
from over 70 different public, private, and home-school organizations across Washington, Oregon, and Montana, are taking part in the fourteenth year of the Western Aerospace Scholars (WAS) program. The students in your district, along with the many others, have a challenging but fun road ahead of them. Over the next couple of months, they will complete online academic coursework and talk to STEM industry experts. While each student completes their course work independently, they will be immersed in a community of fellow space “nerds” both near and far from them.
Our program is a free, online, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education program for high school juniors affiliated with NASA Johnson Space Center’s National High School Aerospace Scholars program and has partner programs in Texas, Virginia, and Idaho. Our primary goal is to excite and prepare students to pursue career pathways in STEM fields using a distance learning curriculum developed in partnership with NASA and the University of Washington.
The application deadline for Western Aerospace Scholars is Wednesday, October 30, 2019. Do you have a student who may be interested?
We also have a sophomore program!
The sophomore-level course serves as an introduction to the junior-level course. It is a FREE online course that takes place in the spring of sophomore year and contains some of the same lessons of the junior program.

BELLEVUE HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL INFORMATION MEETING
Date: Wednesday, November 13, 2019

Who: Students (and their parents) interested in playing baseball this spring for BHS
This meeting is run by the Bellevue Baseball Booster Club and is intended to provide an introduction to the upcoming baseball season. Come meet coach Tate and other players and parents.
We will share information about pre-season training, a rough calendar of events, and answer questions.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FAMILY STEM NIGHT
The Somerset PTSA is looking for
high school student volunteers
to help run stations at Family STEM Night on Friday, November 1, 2019! Volunteers will receive some training from PTSA organizers and then help students and their parents complete simple science & engineering projects. Volunteers will receive 3 hours of volunteer credit.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR NHS SKI SWAP
The Newport Ski Swap is scheduled for November 9–10. The Ski Swap is a 100% volunteer-run event, and the ongoing success of the Swap depends on volunteers. We need
parents and high school volunteers
to run the event smoothly.
