CIT SESSION III WRAPS IN SAN FRANCISCO
The “City by the Bay” was the setting for the 2019 California Issues & Trends (CIT) Session III program. At the crossroads of tech and business, local and global, San Francisco provided an ideal backdrop to explore the opportunities and challenges facing California and women leaders around the theme, “California’s Global Economy.” The session also offered participants a chance to delve deeper into their own personal leadership credo and build upon the lessons learned thus far.
Engaging Male Leaders in the "Me Too" Era Panel
Housing and Homelessness in San Francisco Panel
The session included panels on “Women Leaders in Tech,” “Engaging Male Leaders in the “Me Too” Era,” and “Housing and Homelessness in San Francisco.” The Class also heard presentations on the California and Global economies, steps to get on corporate boards, building your LinkedIn brand and the future big disrupters and opportunities for women leaders. The Class also participated in a special behind-the-scenes tour of Genentech – the birthplace of the biotech.
PANEL FOCUSES ON WOMEN LEADERS IN TECH

Joining CIT alumnae and Leadership California Board Member Christi Haley-Stover (’14), who served as panel moderator, was Abi Eckstein, Chief of Staff for Lyft; Suejin Kim, Senior Manager UX for Google; Dev Patel, Vice President of Go to Market Strategy and Cloud Services for Oracle; Meme Rasmussen, Vice President of Innovation and Legal for Splunk, and Tejal Thakkar, Senior Direction of Business Ops and Strategy for Symantec.

LEADERSHIP CALIFORNIA TRAILBLAZER AWARDEE
DR. LUCY JONES MAKING HEADLINES AGAIN
After the recent earthquake in Southern California, Dr. Lucy Jones, Founder and Chief Scientist for the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society and 2019 Leadership California Trailblazer award honoree, is finding herself in the news again. Jones is doing what she does best – talking about how we can better prepare for natural disasters like earthquakes.

Understanding earthquakes and how we can better prepare for them put Dr. Jones in the spotlight as she helped explain the occurrences and preparedness alongside elected officials for LA County and others in recent weeks. It also provided an opportunity for research that only comes when the unpredictable activity of an earthquake occurs. The numerous interviews she conducted with national and international press once again demonstrated her unparalleled expertise in her field and highlighted why she was so deserving of the Trailblazer award from Leadership California.

Dr. Jones spend 33 years with the U.S. geological Survey performing groundbreaking research on earthquakes and developed the first American earthquake drill, the “Great Shake Out.”
