The Countdown Is Underway!

Dear VOS members,

The countdown to VOS 2020 is underway, and it's going to be an outstanding conference! This month I would like to focus on our Thursday night Awards Banquet. This is where we honor our residents who have won Mark S. Bloomberg Memorial Resident Research Awards.

Mark Bloomberg was a tremendous contributor to the Veterinary Orthopedic Society as a former VOS president, long-standing member, contributor, and supporter. He had special interests in orthopedics, especially sports medicine, and made outstanding contributions to this area in the clinical and research settings. Dr. Bloomberg was also a tremendous supporter and mentor to residents. To honor this special individual, his work, and his devotion to residents, the Veterinary Orthopedic Society has established the Mark S. Bloomberg Memorial Resident Research Awards.

One or more awards are given each year to residents submitting abstracts for presentation at the VOS Annual Conference. The awards allow the recipients to travel to the meeting to present their work.

In 2019, through generous donations from endowed Bloomberg sponsors AO Vet North America, Boehringer-Ingelheim, New Generation Devices, Orthomed, Securos, and VOS Past Presidents, and annual sponsor IMEX Veterinary, Inc., we were able to fund seven Bloomberg Memorial Resident Research Awards.

Winners of these prestigious awards are encouraged to plan to attend the Thursday night banquet. This is your opportunity to be recognized by the membership and to "give back" by attending and acknowledging VOS's contribution to your research and your career. The Bloomberg lectures will be scheduled on Thursday morning to make staying for the banquet even easier.

Janet Van Dyke
Our 2020 banquet will be extra special as it will also be the official retirement party for Maralyn Probst who has worked tirelessly for this organization since well before our Bloomberg award winners were born. In her honor, we will have not just a great selection of food and beverages, but also a comedian who will emcee the evening, making our awards presentations even more fun than usual! Mark your calendar today: February 1-8, 2020, Sun Valley, Idaho.

I look forward to seeing all of you there!
