Come See What Makes Us So Special
THANKS A LATTE!
Volunteer award winners, Esther and Ken Gold, and their daughters
On Wednesday, Fleischman's lobby was filled to the brim with volunteers, residents, and staff to celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week! Staff opened the events with an original song to the tune of "YMCA". After the song and dance, each department took a moment to recognize the incredible work our volunteers do, and honored our Volunteers of the Year. To make the day extra sweet, volunteers were treated to an array of desserts and a coffee bar! Thank you to our volunteers for all you do for JSL, and a special thank you to Leslie Katz for planning such a spectacular event.

AN HOUR OF ACTIVITY MAY KEEP DISABILITY AWAY
Source: cnn.com
Losing the ability to move and perform the activities of daily life can lead to a loss of independence and even be deadly, so researchers are focusing on preventing conditions that can lead to disability.

Being physically active can help prevent disability in those who have or who are at risk of joint conditions. According to a new study, adults with lower-extremity joint symptoms like aching, pain or stiffness who get at least one hour of moderate to vigorous  exercise  every week are more likely to be free of disability after four years than those who do not meet this exercise goal.

GAMES WITH FRIENDS
Studies have shown the risk of dementia was 15 % lower in board game players than in non-players. Board games can enhance memory formation and help exercise cognitive skills, plus it's fun!

Last Tuesday, over 70 attendees played games at our first annual Games With Friends Event! Players enjoyed mahj, cards, puzzles, and more. Each attendee had the opportunity to win one of our many incredible donated prize packages. Thank you to Rear Ends, Sundance Shoes, Slades, Franklin Village Boutique, Detroit Schvitz, Stones Jewelry, and Fiaz Salon for your support!
