Ethan Freel
Q) How did you get started in glass?
A) I've always been attracted to unique items that you can't get anywhere else. Being someone who uses social media, I had just naturally run into glass appreciation pages and had been instantly drawn in to the unique and original ideas people had for the medium. I was really just into collecting glass but as time went on, meeting different artists, creating connections with them and learning about the amount of time and passion people put into the pieces they make was extremely inspiring so I eventually stopped collecting to learn more about craft itself.
Q) Why did you become interested in torchworking?
A) The amount of detail that can be done on a torch, the convenience of setting a studio up at home and the idea of it being something you can do alone with no assistance was enough for me to know that torchworking was for me.
Q) What is your favorite part about working with glass?
A) I have only been on the torch for a year so there aren't a whole lot of experiences I can look back to. Glass is an incredible material to work with and can teach you a lot. At this very moment I would say my favorite thing about working with glass is every single time I try something, I learn something new in the process.
