City Council Adopts Gateway Master Plan
Gateway Master Plan
At the Tuesday, Dec. 7 meeting, the City Council unanimously voted to adopt the Gateway Master Plan. The Gateway site is a key entrance to the North Bayshore area and is located at the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 101 and North Shoreline Boulevard.

The Master Plan will help implement the transformation of the North Bayshore Precise Plan area into a complete community with homes, offices, and neighborhood-serving and regional retail and entertainment uses connected by pedestrian, bicycle and transit infrastructure. The Gateway Master Plan creates a framework of streets, open space, walkable blocks and infrastructure improvements to ensure an integrated and vibrant mixed-use center while providing flexibility for phased development by individual property owners (Google and Sywest). The Master Plan envisions dividing the area into three key districts (residential, mixed-use and office/entertainment) and would accommodate as many as 2,800 homes, 500,000 square feet of office, and 300,000 square feet of retail and entertainment uses centered around open space including a neighborhood park, a central plaza and retail “Main Street.”

For more details, visit the Gateway Master Plan webpage.
City Awarded $5 Million Grant for
 LifeMoves Mountain View
The California Department of Housing and Community Development announced in late November that the City of Mountain View has been awarded a $5 million grant as part of the State’s Community Development Block Grant Homekey program to support LifeMoves Mountain View.

LifeMoves Mountain View is an interim housing community with supportive services for homeless or unstably housed individuals, couples and families to get help to transition into permanent supportive housing. The grant funds will be used to improve the program’s operations, such as adding parking closer to the interim housing and on-site solar panels to enhance environmental sustainability and lower operating costs.
Monarch Butterfly Habitats to Expand, Thanks to Grant from Google
The City of Mountain View is establishing several new pollinator habitats at the Shoreline at Mountain View wildlife and recreation area to help preserve and protect the monarch butterfly. The City’s butterfly habitat preservation effort is the result of a $30,000 grant from Google.

The City will use the grant funding for developing and maintaining three pollinator habitats on 7.7 acres at Shoreline:
  • Phase 1 will be a .5 acre site within the 9-acre North East Meadowland area
  • Phase 2 will include two areas: a 2.7-acre site near Pond 1 at Shoreline Golf Links and a 4.5-acre site near Pond 2 on the golf course. Both habitats are expected to be completed in 2022.

Learn more about this project from the City’s news release.
