At Three Rivers, you'll find students, faculty and staff hard at work all summer long as they learn, teach and prepare for the fall semester. And, if you, or someone you know, would like to join them and fit in a class, there is still time! The final summer session begins on Thursday, July 12.

Three Rivers News 
CSCU Students First Update
President Mark Ojakian is moving forward with a revised Students First consolidation plan and sent out a detailed update on June 18.  There are three significant changes to the plan: extending the timeline for the single accredited community college to 2023 thereby keeping the 12 accreditations of the colleges, developing a more gradually paced academic planning and transition process, and maintaining the current department chair structure. The revised plan is estimated to save $17M when fully implemented versus the $23M as originally proposed. 

Congratulations to Three Rivers Middle College Graduates! 
In the 6th commencement ceremony on June 19, 30 graduates earned almost 900 college credits. Two students earned two years worth of college credits and received their Three Rivers associate degrees in addition to their high school diplomas. H alf of the class secured a year of college credits.  Read the full story here.
IT is hard at work on the OneDrive Deployment 
OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud based storage solution to replace personal on-campus network storage at Three Rivers. OneDrive offers increased accessibility (both on- and off-campus access) and collaborative work features while reducing costs for the College. The IT department will be finishing the staff migration to OneDrive over the summer and will begin migrating faculty to OneDrive in the Fall semester.
Adventures in Lifelong Learning Celebrate an Enlightened Semester
On June 6, Adventures in Lifelong Learning held a "wrap up reception" in the Multi-Purpose Room. Close to  90 learners attended, and Mary Pineault gave a review of the semester.  She reported that 310 students registered, and attended 52 programs including classes, movies, trips, pottery classes, the Empty Bowls Project and writer's group sessions. She also  thanked President Jukoski for her support and for giving a lecture as well as the 11 faculty members who gave lectures.

Congratulations to George Simones 
on being selected to travel to NASA's Langley Research Center this summer to participate in the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars onsite experience. George just graduated this May with an associate degree in Graphic Design. Read more here.

Congratulation to Tesla Delcid-Pichardo on being awarded a scholarship by the Hispanic Alliance of Southeastern Connecticut. Tesla was one of 20 students who received scholarships. The winners were described as "outstanding young people who achieved academically, complete a wide range of extracurricular activities and perform community service." Read more here. 

News from Three Rivers College Foundation 
The Paul Jones Trust continued their annual donation of $20,000 to the Foundation to support the Nursing Program. This past year, because of their on-going support and growing endowment, the following numerous initiatives were made possible:
  • Supported the funding with $25,000 to develop and implement an Inter-Professional Health Clinic at two sites in Norwich and New London where Three Rivers nursing students participated as members of this Inter-Professional Healthcare team.
  • Supported the funding for two teleconference advisory reviews to offer feedback on the self-study report the Nursing Department is writing in preparation of the Accreditation visit.
  • Funded a creative educational activity offered by the Second Step Players, a non-profit organization that uses performing arts to teach about the stigma of mental illness.
  • Supported the professional development of a new nurse educators online course for new clinical faculty.
  • Supported faculty in the development of the final design and details of a new concept-based nursing curriculum.
The Edward and Mary Lord Foundation added $30,000 to their endowed scholarship fund that provides support to Three Rivers student's enrolled in an engineering discipline. 

The Foundation approved $3,900 for Simulation Education where actor/actresses serve as patients to create real nurse-patient interactions to simulate a set of symptoms or problems and used to teach and evaluate nursing students.

The Foundation received a $2,500 grant from Chelsea Groton Foundation to fund the Workforce Training Completion Program supporting former Ridley Lowell students.
