Students Receive $205,288 in Scholarships from Charlevoix County Community Foundation
Nearly 100 graduating seniors from Charlevoix County high schools will receive a total of $205,288 in scholarship funds to help them launch into college and post-secondary education and training programs. While 2020 is a strange year for graduating and moving on to college, these students were grateful for the assistance through the Community Foundation. Scholarship funds were established by local citizens or groups to honor family members, community leaders, educators, and others who value continuing education.

Students shared their excitement and gratitude with receiving funding, stating that this support will allow them to focus on their education and earning a degree instead of their financial burden. Some students said that feeling the community’s support and recognition through their scholarship award meant a lot to them.

Each year the Community Foundation awards merit scholarships to outstanding local students entering the skilled trades, community colleges and 4-year colleges and universities. These students have demonstrated their eagerness to succeed beyond high school and have shown promise in their work ethic and in their academic achievement.

Pure Michigan Announces Statewide Safety Pledge for Businesses, Tourism and Local Communities
Building on the “Two Peninsulas, One Pure Michigan” message of strength and unity across the state during COVID-19, Pure Michigan is encouraging businesses, visitors and local communities across the state to take the Pure Michigan Pledge, a promise to uphold local safety protocols and CDC travel guidelines to travel safely this summer season and beyond.

Most travel surveys and trends show that people are eager to get out and explore, but safety is a top priority. Travelers will be going on more road trips, especially shorter, regionally-based trips, and staying in properties with direct outdoor access, including campsites and RV rentals, and choosing destinations based on the ability to enjoy nature and maintain appropriate social distance. That’s where the Pure Michigan Pledge comes in.

The Pure Michigan Pledge outlines seven steps businesses in the travel industry will take to ensure a safe environment for travelers. These steps include: following all CDC guidelines, wearing face coverings in all required and otherwise appropriate areas, keeping high-touch surfaces clean, practicing social distancing, use of credit and debit cards as much as possible, providing adequate supplies of soap and sanitizer to employees and visitors alike, and finally staying home if there are any signs of illness.

A downloadable toolkit is also available to businesses and travelers alike to help further educate what safety measures and precautions are being implemented to ensure they’re a safe destination to visit once again. That toolkit can be accessed at michigan.org/puremichiganpledge. To view the full press release click HERE. Click HERE for a snapshot of the pledge.
