Dear 7th District Community,
In just a few weeks we say goodbye to 2021 and welcome 2022. A time to convey holiday cheer and reflect on 2021 – as we celebrate life and remember those that are no longer with us. I encourage the community to remain cautious as we continue to navigate the pandemic and embark on the road to recovery. A new variant, Omicron, has been identified and we need to continue practicing precautions to prevent the transmission of COVID. The best way to strengthen your protection against COVID and its variants is to get a booster vaccine. In addition, please be sure to follow the CDC recommendations for any gatherings, and/or travel plans as you make your holiday plans.

Destination: Vaccination is a program that aims to remove the transportation barrier for many Cook County residents, by providing rides to and from vaccination sites to Suburban Cook County residents and Chicago residents who wish to utilize a Cook County location. Destination: Vaccination is free of cost, residents who need a ride to receive the COVID-19 vaccine can call (833) 308-1988 and the transportation service should arrive in 30-60 minutes. |

Vaccine for Children
Cook County rolled out COVID-19 vaccination for children (ages 5 to 11 years) in early November through the Cook County Health locations after the approval of vaccination by FDA. Patients and members of the community will be able to make an online appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine for a 5–11-year-old child by visiting vaccine.cookcountyil.gov. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to get vaccinated. CCH continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations for people aged 12+ and booster shots for eligible adults.
The vaccine is free for everyone, regardless of insurance or immigration status. Everyone age 5 and older is encouraged to get vaccinated!

Vacuna para niños

Public Hearing on Behavioral Health |
|
In November, the Board of Commissioners' Health & Hospitals Committee held its second public hearing on the quarterly reporting established by resolution # #21-1189 chief sponsored by Commissioner Alma E. Anaya. The various Cook County entities providing behavioral and mental health services provided an update on the services provided.

Pilsen Wellness Turkey Giveaway |

On Sunday, November 14, the Pilsen Wellness Center invited Commissioner Alma E. Anaya in collaboration with State Representative Theresa Mah and State Senator Celina Villanueva to a turkey distribution and food bags for 500 families to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Some community organizations also provided resources. |

On November 5th, Commissioner Alma E. Anaya invited seniors to the Senior Fall Outing to experience and enjoy nature inside and outside the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center. During this event seniors interacted with animals, created ornaments and took a beautiful trail walk. Everyone enjoyed themselves, thank you to all staff at Little Red Schoolhouse for hosting us. |

On Saturday, November 20th Commissioner Alma E. Anaya collaborated with St. Rita of Cascia Church to distribute more than 400 turkey baskets and PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

On November 21st, Commissioner Alma E. Anaya in collaboration with State Representative Aaron Ortiz, Zakat Foundation of America, PODER and Chicago Covid Control hosted a Turkey Giveaway. Over 250 community members received free turkey and ham baskets. Community members were able to get their Covid-19 test and take home testing kits with PPE (Personal Protection Equipment). Thank you to PODER for hosting us! |

Senior Thanksgiving Meals |

On October 23rd, Cook County Commissioner Alma E. Anaya and Alderman David Moore hosted a Thanksgiving lunch at Lawn Terrace Senior Home. Seniors were able to pick up a warm meal and also get their covid-19 test. |

Monthly Food Distribution |

Every first Thursday of the month, Commissioner Alma E. Anaya, in collaboration with State Representatives Theresa Mah and Aarón M. Ortíz, distributes food to over 400 families at the San Miguel Community Center. Our next food distribution event will take place next month Thursday, January 6th, 2022 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.

On Friday, December 3rd, Commissioner Alma E. Anaya, in collaboration with the Assessor's office and the Greater Southwest Development Corporation, hosted a workshop for LAKE Township. Residents and commercial owners where able to file an appeal on their property taxes. |

On Saturday, December 4th Commissioner Alma E. Anaya joined Maria Saucedo Scholastic Academy, Representative Edgar Gonzalez, Senator Celina Villanueva, and others for the Saucedo Winter 5k Walk/Run. Commissioner Anaya enjoyed walking along with students, staff and community members, and helped provide tamales and warm champurrado after individuals concluded the 5k. |

Property Tax Appeal Assistance |

On Monday, December 6th, Commissioner Alma E. Anaya held a workshop on property tax assessment appeals for Lake Township property owners at San Miguel Community Center. With the help of staff, attendees were able to complete a property tax appeal application. |

Cook County Jail Divisions 1 and 1A Demolition Update |
|
The Cook County Bureau of Asset Management (BAM) continues with the demolition of Divisions 1 and 1A at Cook County Jail as the demolition contractor makes sure the buildings are carefully removed piece by piece, safely and securely. The demolition project is running on schedule. Demolition of the Division 1 building has been completed and Division 1A building demolition will start in December.
Materials from the building are being sorted before moving to off-site storage and recycling facilities. Trucks are scheduled to haul materials from the work site between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM. The County’s contractor will continue to use the same methods as with Division 1 to minimize any dust that may occur. Air quality monitoring continues for the remainder of the project.
Residents in the immediate area by the Jail campus have received a door hanger at their properties with more information. Please note the Division 1A demolition start date has been modified to mid-November. For immediate concerns about demolition activity or if you have any questions, please contact 847-378-1704.
