Family Vacation Bible School

Family Vacation Bible School was held August 5th through the 8th.  Approximately 100 children, parents, grandparents and volunteers participated in the event. The theme was Athens: Paul's Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth. It was a great week for all involved. Thank you to everyone who made this week a success.

In July, the Chapel Chimers met at the Kirchoff lake  home to have a fun afternoon of swimming.  There is always great conversation during a snack break.

The Chapel Chimers will have their first bell practice on Wed. September 4 at 3:30.

On July 28 a group of beginning bell choir ringers performed "Holy, Holy, Holy" in church.  They did an awesome job with just two practices.  The following people participated:  Ahmi Lee Emig, Iris Miller, Sheryl Yassin, Jan Nordell, Tammy Freeburg and Jack Schubert.  Hal Kirchoff assisted.

The Handbell Choir had a summer gathering at Hal and Judy's home and we also celebrated handbell retirement farewells for Fred and Claudia Tessmer and to Gordy and Audrey Jacobson.  Thank you all for your talents, dedication and commitment to this ministry; you will be missed.  The Jacobson's were charter members since November 2009.
On August 11, the anthem "Morning is Broken" was performed by Judy Kirchoff on handbells, Haley Kirchoff on violin, and Judi Burson on piano.  Thank you Judi for your accompaniment, and it was es pecially nice to have Hal & Judy's granddaughter, from Hutchinson, perform with us.

Fall is fast approaching and the handbell choir will have their first performance on September 8.  Practices will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.

CREW
by John Gordon, Youth Ministry Coordinator

CREW had a fun evening at the parsonage with good food and fellowship had be all. A large group of people boated, paddle board, kayak, and just did some old fashion swimming till the sun went down and the state skeeters arrived.

CREW has an exciting fall ahead as we start our several year journey into the Faith Stone Book: "WHATS IN YOUR BAG!" We will journey into a spiritual experience of what it is to be and have God inour lives.

Feel free to join us on Wednesday nights! Christ is in our CREW!
Fall Congregational Study
by Pastor Paul

This Fall, our congregational learning and small group event is called "Taste and See-Discovering God among Butchers, Bakers, and Fresh Food Makers." by Christian author and speaker Margaret Feinberg.

The study is self-described this way: "Go on a global culinary and spiritual adventure with Margaret Feinberg in this six-session video Bible study that will change the way you read the Bible forever...and the way you approach every meal."

Sessions include:
You're Invited to the Table
Delighting in the Sweetness of Fruitfulness
Chewing on the Bread of Life
Savoring the Salt of the Earth
Relishing the Olive and Its Oil Discovering the Liturgy of the Table

Look for small group materials to be arriving in the coming weeks. I hope everyone gets involved in a small group for this study. If needed, we can help you find a small group. It all begins the week of Sunday September 15.

Spirit of Christmas Bazaar

Nancy Nyvold has agreed to be the bazaar chair. The current committee will be helping her this year as she learns the job. Please be open to helping with the bazaar and supporting Nancy.

Watch the newsletters and bulletins for announcements regarding the bazaar as November 9th is less than three months away.

Hopefully everyone is working on their projects so that we can raise the funds to provide support for all of the organizations we have supported in the past.

Harvest Table
by Nancy Evans

The phrase "harvest table" brings to mind cornucopias and tables laden with seasonal foods. We have such a table at Immanuel Lu-theran Church, and you will find it next to the mailboxes in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings from now through the first frost of fall.

During July, August, and September, home gardeners and our church garden team share fresh produce they have grown for your enjoyment with the added goal to raise money for our soup kitchen ministry.

Please help yourself to fresh lettuce, beans, tomatoes, herbs, and other seasonal produce which members of our congrega-tion have harvested to share with you. Free-will donations are ap-preciated, and there is a can labeled for those. Money raised goes towards the preparation of delicious healthy meals for needy fami-lies in the Brainerd Lakes area through the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen. (See Pat Neros for more information on this local minis-try.)
Enjoy the fresh produce, but keep in mind the need of the hungry families at the soup kitchen and the hard work of our home and church gardeners, and  please give what you can as a sign of thanks.
