A Summary of Vestry Actions taken at its August 8
th
Meeting.
Fair report
Dual reported that the current net proceeds from the Fair are $34,652.34 with some payments still being received. Pam noted that the wonderful Silent Auction was a big contributor to the success this year. Max thanked Lucy Leske and Pat McGill for their tireless efforts.
Treasurer’s report
– Martin McKerrow
Martin reported that July was a good month and, if the current trend continues, we will be close to the budget by year’s end. The audit of 2018 will be circulated electronically to the Vestry and a special Vestry meeting will be called to approve it before the September deadline. Martin noted that letters of thanks are being sent to all donors, but that a better tracking system is needed for next year. He also said the consolidation of bank accounts is proceeding and the Finance Committee will address the appropriate investment of any surplus funds.
Priest-in-Charge Comments
– Rev. Max Wolf
Max said he is very pleased with the Sunday attendance recently and the excellent music programs either held or planned for the summer. He noted, in particular, the Jazz Eucharist on August 11
th
, featuring the first performance of original scores by George Young, and the Cornell University Chamber Singers giving three performances in the church.
Fellowship committee report
–
Libby Tracey
The committee recommends that more seating be provided in the patio for future Festivals on Fair. There will be a potluck supper on Wednesday, August 14
th
at the Goddard’s home for the parish and for the Cornell Singers. Max said that we will return to one combined service at 9:30 am beginning September 8
th
. This is being done, in part, to give the summer members from each service a chance to socialize at coffee hours before they leave the island.
Warden’s reports
– Lou Gennaro
Lou said that the Wardens and Max have met to discuss priorities for the next few months. They agreed that Stewardship is the top priority because we must improve our pledged giving to relieve some of the pressure on both on volunteers and on fund raising events. It was agreed that an ad hoc committee of some Vestry members and parishioners should be formed to come up with ways to improve Stewardship. Yvette St. Jean and Curtis Barnes volunteered to be on the committee.
The second priority is the Long Range Planning committee, which now has 2 or 3 members. The hope is to expand this to 5 or 6 members and to flush out specific plans for the future.
The final priority is to form a Discernment Team of 3 to 5 members to complete the Priest-in-Charge process. This may involve opinion surveys, a review of the Parish Profile, and integration with the long-range plans for the Parish. Lou asked each Vestry person to volunteer to serve on one of the priority committees.
Lou also emphasized that we need a volunteer to head the Fair in 2020 and the sooner we have a person in place, the better. The Fair must take place next year: canceling it is not an option.
