Update from CEO, Susan Greenbaum
|
I love summer! It probably is a remnant from my childhood, being out of school, and playing with my friends all day until my mother made me come home for dinner. Unfortunately, in 2019, life for many is not so carefree. For both stay-at-home parents and working parents without childcare, an unstructured summer can actually cause additional stress for the entire family.
The main challenge for parents is finding the balance between structured and unstructured playtime. Too much structure can run children ragged and lead to stressed-out kids. And too little structure can lead to kids spending too much time on screens and electronic devices.
Even in August, it is not too late to put a summer plan into action. It may take some effort to come up with the right balance, but making plans and involving older children in creating those plans can help you achieve a fun end of summer.
And make sure to take time to appreciate quality time with friends and family before the hectic school/work schedule begins again in September. If you or someone you know, is feeling overwhelmed or anxious as School approaches, I ask you to reach out to JFCS and get them the support they need. Have a great end of summer!

JFCS Club Ed Secures New School District
|
|
JFCS is proud to announce that Club Ed has secured a new afterschool program within the Palisades Park school district, starting in September, 2019. "Adding a 6th school district to our portfolio is a vote of confidence from the Bergen County school districts," says Suad Gacham, Director of the Club Ed program at JFCS. The program is currently taking applications for the Early Childhood Center and Lindbergh Elementary students in Palisades Park.
Club Ed provides afterschool programming for public school children in Northern NJ and continues to grow each year with over 1,000 students in the programs. It gives working parents (many of whom are members of immigrant families) the peace of mind to allow them to focus on their jobs knowing their kids are well-supervised and having fun.
If your school district is in need of a better afterschool program, please contact Suad at
