Rest In Peace Marcey
We learned early this week that Mrs. Marcey Flood passed away. Marcey and her family have been parishioners at St John since 2005, Marcey was a Eucharistic Minister, taught First Communion classes and was a preschool teacher at St John School.  Marcey was diagnosed in 2017 with EHE (Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma), an extremely rare type of vascular cancer. She was brave, courageous, and graceful in her fight.

Marcey began working at St. John in 2011 and returned again in 2016 as a lead preschool teacher. Her love for each child was abundantly clear in the classroom. Marcey brought out the best in every learner with love, positivity, and kindness. She could always be counted on for a smile along with gentle words of reassurance and encouragement. There was no job too small and her enthusiastic willingness to support the mission was something she modeled to co-workers. Marcey was active in supporting St. John cross country and track and volunteered in many other capacities both as a parent of two students who graduated from St. John and later as a faculty member. Marcey was committed to on-going professional development and consistently sought ways to improve her craft, most recently introducing STEM lessons into the preschool curriculum.

Marcey modeled faith, strength, humility, and patience in all aspects of her life. Her presence and grace made us all want to be better people. We are eternally grateful for her many contributions to St. John Parish and School. Godspeed Marcey. We love you.

The Flood family would like to thank the community for the ongoing support of Marcey and the continued prayers.

ACA UPDATE!

With your support, we are at 70% of our ACA goal!
Help us get to 100% by donating today!

Thank you to the 177 families who have contributed over $70,000 to the ACA! This year our allotted share is $98,710. This amount must be paid no matter how much we collect. If you haven't given yet, there is still time to help us reach our goal.

Your gift can still help the Annual Catholic Appeal by its support of more than 60 ministries and services that are offered to thousands of individuals across Western Washington. In addition, this year, a 10% 'tithe' from ACA 2020 donations (excluding rebates) will be placed in a Parish Solidarity Fund for those parishes severely financially impacted as a result of the suspension of public Masses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you haven't already made your gift, won't you please consider making a gift this year? No gift is too small. If you're unsure what to give, please consider a gift of $1 a day or $365 or more!

Click here to donate now. If you'd rather call in your gift to the Appeal Office, they can be reached at 800-809-4921. Asante Sana!
Private Prayer Time in the Church?
With the Phase II re-opening plans, we are considering opening the church for private prayer a couple of days a week.  Would you come spend some time in private prayer in the church if it were open?  What days and times would be best for you?  Please email Sheila Marty at [email protected] with your input.  Thank you!
Altar Linen Ministry Volunteer Needed
The Sacristy is in need of a volunteer to clean and press the small linens used during Mass.
This includes purificators, corporals and hand towels.
Depending on the volume of Masses, this could be a weekly or biweekly need.
If interested, please contact Patty Mayhle at [email protected] or 206-852-7852

A Great Big Thank you from Your St Vincent de Paul Ministry
The St Vincent de Paul ministry would like to thank our generous parishioners for continuing to support our vital ministry during the pandemic. We have been blessed with regular cash donations from numerous parishioners. In fact, monthly donations during the pandemic have exceeded average monthly donations preceding the pandemic! Thank you! Many parishioners also donated to our no-contact food drive during the last few weeks of Lent.

Several groups have also bestowed their generosity on us. Back in April, the St John's Kindergarten parents, realizing that the Spring teacher luncheon wouldn't be happening with the school closed, instead repurposed the $745 they had raised for the luncheon and gave it to our ministry. During May, Girl Scout Troop #44091 donated $500 from their cookie sales to the ministry and offered their assistance for any future food drives. Also, during May, Patti and Mike Bishop, came up with a creative food drive at their business, Fremont Mischief Distillery, offering a bottle of hand sanitizer made in their distillery in exchange for a donation of food. Not only did their drive fully stock our pantry, but they also raised over $900 for St Vincent de Paul.

We are truly humbled by your continued support of our ministry in helping the poor of our community pay their rent, keep the lights on, and put food on their tables. Thank you so much.

Finally, we'd like to remind you that our pandemic food delivery service is still open! We realize that many are reluctant to shop during the pandemic, but we are happy to make deliveries from our over-flowing food pantry to any parishioner, no matter how little or how much you have. Just call the parish office, let us know you would like some food delivered, and we will be happy to drop it off at your doorstep. All you need to do is ask.
Father will be offering Reconciliation by appointment on
Saturdays from 4 to 4:45pm .  Please email Sheila Marty at  [email protected]  or call her at 206-782-2810 ext 358 to arrange an appointment.  (You do not need to leave your name, we just need to know how many people are coming.)

We have modified the space for Reconciliations to allow for appropriate air flow, social distance, and sanitation. Reconciliation will take place with a draped screen between you and Father for everyone's safety.  Please enter through the side doors, wear a mask, use the hand sanitizer or wipes that are provided, and practice social distancing.   Please sit in the back pews of the church until Father is ready for you.   Thank you!
Laudato Si in Action
Renew
In Chapter One of Laudato Si, Pope Francis calls our attention to unsustainable energy use and consumption:

...a number of scientific studies indicate that most global warming in recent decades is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others) released mainly as a result of human activity. As these gases build up in the atmosphere, they hamper the escape of heat produced by sunlight at the earth's surface. The problem is aggravated by a model of development based on the intensive use of fossil fuels, which is at the heart of the worldwide energy system.

As I mentioned last time, my approach to consumption of resources can be summed up with these five words: reduce, reuse, renew, rethink, and recycle. In prior columns, I discussed reduce and reuse. This time, I'd like to talk about renew.   Read more...
