Safety Net Action Committee
Monday, August 19, 7-9 pm
Or Shalom's Safety Net Action Committee (SNAC) works to build the movement for universal access to health care. Group members have educated ourselves about different forms of universal healthcare around the world. We have developed a statement called "Healthcare for All is a Moral Issue," and presented it to the Reconstructionist Movement and other faith-based groups. We have canvassed for the "Medicare for All Act 2019," which currently has the support of over half the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. We write and call representatives in support of various bills at the local, state, and national levels that concern health care justice.
SNAC is also beginning to explore ways to be part of Or Shalom's Sanctuary and Immigration work: resisting and changing immigration policies and supporting immigrants.
SNAC meets on the 3rd Monday of each month. Please join us on August 19 or at a subsequent meeting. For information contact
Betsy Strausberg.

Interfaith Movement For Human Integrity, and Rabbi
Lynn Gottlieb, Chair of the Board of IM4HI, will be
presenting at our 4th Friday Shabbat Service Speaker Series this month.
They will be speaking about the root causes of immigration and ways that we at Or Shalom can launch efforts to support immigrants, acting on the core Jewish mitzvah of welcoming the stranger.

Reconstructing Judaism and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association have issued a statement in response to the shootings in El Paso and Dayton, including the spiritual support of two prayers from Ritualwell. We encourage you to read this forthright
statement of consolation and condemnation.
A new book from a prominent Reconstructionist rabbi offers commentaries on the weekly parsha that include insights from Mordecai Kaplan, the founder of our movement. Read about it here.
