A New Year’s Blessing - COVID-19 Vaccine
As we enter the new year, the good news of the quality and availability of the COVID-19 vaccine is spreading far and wide. From my vantage point as a member of the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force, I’m proud of the thoughtful way that our state leaders are approaching the vaccine distribution. NCAFCC’s free and charitable clinics are an active part of the distribution plan and it seems like we will be fully engaged now that a version of the vaccine is available that has less stringent refrigeration requirements. My contacts at the NC Division of Public Health are thrilled that 14 of our Member clinics have stepped forward to enroll as either vaccine providers or redistributors and they are hoping as many clinics as possible will join in.
I count the COVID-19 vaccine as a blessing and the opportunity for free and charitable clinics to get involved as a double-blessing. However, we are already learning that “putting shots in arms” will be accompanied with additional administrative and reporting responsibilities. To help you sort through these challenges, I’ve asked Cindy Jones on our staff to serve as NCAFCC’s point of contact on all things related to the COVID-19 vaccine. As you may know, Cindy was a respiratory therapist prior to working for NCAFCC and we are fortunate to have someone on our team who has such intuitive knowledge about COVID-19 and the related regulatory process. Although dispensing the vaccine may not be appropriate for every clinic, for those who can, we want your experience to be a great success. Thank you for giving NCAFCC one more reason to celebrate a Happy New Year!

It’s a New Year – 2021
2021 could not get here soon enough! As we have all witnessed – it’s been a mighty challenging year. For most people, the new year can mark an opportunity to set New Year’s resolutions or a chance for a fresh start. Along with setting new objectives for your clinic, yourself, or just re-evaluating life in general, you might be wondering what to do for offering new year wishes to your team members, your family and friends, and your patients. I challenge you to do as I have and offer to others what one of my favorite poems suggests:
I will light candles this Christmas, Candles of joy despite all the sadness, Candles of hope where despair keeps watch, Candles of courage for fears ever present, Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days, Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens, Candles of love to inspire all my living, Candles that will burn all year long.
~ Howard Thurman
May the new year bring you peace, joy and happiness, and I look forward to serving you as board chair in 2021.
Tony
