Children in Worship
During the 9:30 and 11:00 services, the Sunday School students will help lead us in worship, as they frequently do on the second Sunday of the month, through their participation in the roles of beadle and liturgist.

Also, for the first part of the services, all children who otherwise take part in Sunday School will instead stay with their parents as they attend worship. The children will then depart for their classrooms, with their teachers, before the sermon begins.

Commissioning Maggie Shreve
During Jazz at Four this Sunday we will commission Maggie Shreve, an ordained Presbyterian Church (USA) minister, as Fourth Church’s Parish Associate for Jail Ministry, serving in ministries of reconciliation at Cook County Jail and in hospitality and presence at Sunday Night Supper.

We are grateful to Maggie for serving in this capacity! If you would like to learn more about our Jail Ministry, please email her at jailministry@fourthchurch.org.

On Sunday, February 12, 1871, the congregation of Fourth Church was founded. Following in the pattern set that first year, each February since then we have gathered for our annual meeting on the second Sunday of February.

Thus the 150th Annual Meeting of the Congregation will be held this Sunday, February 9 following the 11:00 a.m. service. As part of that meeting, the congregation will elect new officers. The slate of candidates that will be presented by the Nominating Committee is posted online.

There will also be remarks reflecting on the previous year and looking ahead to the year to come.

All members are encouraged to attend the annual meeting in order to take part in this important activity in the life of Fourth Church!

Thanks to your generosity and the efforts of our youth, we collected more than 300 food items and $2,458.70 during last Sunday’s Souper Bowl of Caring!

These contributions will provide meals for those served by our Fourth Church Meals Ministry Bag Lunch and Sunday and Monday Night Supper programs as well as the food pantry of our Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center.

Thank you for helping tackle hunger in our community!

Thank you also to the anonymous donor who marked their birthday by donating 711 snacks and drinks for the Meals Ministry Bag Lunch program!

Perhaps the 358 sweet snacks, 155 fruity snacks, and 198 fruit drinks are the result of asking for snack contributions as presents? However they came to be gathered, we very much appreciate this generous birthday gift, which will help fill bag lunches for many of our hungry guests.

It is great ideas like this that help make it possible for Meals Ministry to serve lunches three days each week. You can learn more online about items needed and easy ways to donate.
If you haven’t yet reserved your tickets for the fun and festive 2020 Gala of Hope, the annual benefit in support of Chicago Lights—the community outreach arm of Fourth Church—and the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being, why not do so today.

Reserve your tickets online—or get them at Coffee Hour this Sunday—and plan to join us on Friday, March 6 for an evening of fun that makes a difference in the lives of so many!

This Lent the Spiritual Formation Council invites you to join them for their annual “Path of Discipleship,” a six-week Lenten series that explores and applies particular spiritual practices that can deepen our faith journey as disciples of Jesus Christ.

This year the series focus will be the book Entering the Passion of Jesus by Amy Jill-Levine.

This study, led by the associate pastors, will meet on Tuesday evenings during Lent and will include a shared meal.

Tuesdays, March 3–April 7
6:00–8:00 p.m. (dinner included)
Cost: $65 to cover meals (some scholarship assistance is available)

Ash Wednesday Worship
Wednesday, February 26
12:10 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

To begin our Lenten journey, we will gather for worship on Ash Wednesday. Both services will include Communion and the opportunity to receive the imposition of ashes.

Ashes on the Way
Wednesday, February 26
7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The imposition of ashes will also be available in the Narthex and outside the Sanctuary throughout the day. This is offered for those in our community who are unable to be with us for worship but who find the ashes to be a meaningful way to mark the beginning of this season of repentance and reflection.

Lenten Devotions
Beginning Wednesday, February 26

A resource for prayer and reflection, the Lenten devotions will be available through five different means beginning on Ash Wednesday.

Are you available to greet worshipers at our Sunday afternoon Jazz at Four service?

Or might you be able to help us with grocery shopping once a month? (Our Meals Ministry program is in need of grocery shoppers to purchase supplies for the program; shoppers need both email access and a car.)

These are just two of the volunteer opportunities you will find listed on VOMO ( www.bit.ly/fpcvolunteers), our new volunteer management software, which makes it easy to sign up for and manage your volunteer engagement with the church.

For assistance with VOMO or information about volunteering with Fourth Church, please contact Robert Crouch, Director of Volunteer Ministry.
