Habi-crafting with Habitat LA: Vertical Pallet Planter
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is proud to introduce our new Habi-Crafting with Habitat LA tutorial DIY videos on our Habitat LA YouTube channel. This fun series, brought to you by Habitat LA staff, will feature creative and easy crafting ideas to repurpose or upcycle everyday items. Our homes are built with practices that lessen the harmful impacts on the environment, while our Habitat LA ReStores divert millions of pounds of debris away from area landfills through deconstruction and recycling. Green building is truly our style!

With summer coming to an end, we have the perfect fall project – building your very own Vertical Pallet Planter. This self-build is great for patio gardening because pallets are readily available, inexpensive and found at our three ReStore locations. Grab a pair of recycled jeans, t-shirts and your tools, then you’re all set to follow our resident power women from our construction team - Aby, Stephanie, Theresa and Brittney, as they take you through the steps. Tag us on social media @HabitatLA and share pictures of your vertical pallet planter.

Breaking New Ground with Thrivent
Video Updates From Budlong Avenue
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA), in partnership with Thrivent, have officially broken ground on two new Habitat LA homes on Budlong Avenue in Los Angeles. These are the 20th and 21st homes sponsored by Thrivent since 2005 to build hope and homes and put faith into action for families in need.

Thrivent contributes fifty percent of the funding for each home and encourages faith partners across greater Los Angeles to band together to raise the remainder and volunteer to help build the homes. This year, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Thrivent employees and volunteers are unable to join in-person. Our commitment to the health and safety of our Habitat LA community is always our first priority therefore, we will be providing video updates from our construction team until it is safe to build together again. Safer at Home

Meet Four Habitat LA Homeowners and Neighbors
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) believes homeownership empowers and provides the foundation to build strength, stability and self-reliance needed for a better future. Families and individuals are carefully selected for each house we build or rehabilitate. Selection is non-discriminatory; race, color, ethnic origin, gender identity, religion, sex and family composition are not factors. Meet four of our current homeowners who are safer at home during the COVID-19 global pandemic and have the comfort of neighbors, who too are Habitat LA homeowners.
Habitat AmeriCorps Help Address Increased Need for Housing in Greater Los Angeles
While most young adults use a gap year after college to take a break and engage in activities such as traveling, volunteering, mentoring or educational opportunities, Danielle integrated all of those experiences in one year when she joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ (Habitat LA) AmeriCorps Program. Equipped with only a bachelor’s degree in Communications, very little professional work experience, but a servant’s heart as big as the sun, Danielle helped thousands of people access critical information about affordable housing solutions in greater Los Angeles.
