The mission of Trinity Church is to share Christ's love and grace in a vibrant community whose joyful spirit empowers people to do God's work.

SENIOR WARDEN'S NOTES
Martin Luther nailed up his 95 Theses on the door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenburg, Germany, in 1517 and galvanized the Protestant Reformation. We use our Trinity church door for more peaceful means of communication but it is still an important posting point for us.

Currently there are three notable sign-up sheets on our door. One will match drivers and riders for the ordination of our own Amanda Kotval. Another requests sponsorship for Blessings in a Backpack, a program for feeding elementary children who qualify for free lunch at their school. The children take home a bag of food in their backpacks on Fridays that feeds them over the weekend. The cost to sponsor a child for the year is $100 or $50 for a semester. Susan McSpadden leads a core group of volunteers work in this worthy feeding project each year and we thank them all.

A third sign-up list enables us to practice Walking Evangelism, as the current buzz word calls it, by handing out free bottles of water to people participating in the Fredericksburg Water Slide event on Saturday, August 31. William Street will be closed from College Avenue to Littlepage and giant water slides will fill William Street. We have rented both of our parking lots to the City for the event and decided this is an opportunity to do some visible service to folks who may not otherwise ever be on our property. Ticket-holders – an anticipated 1900 of them -- will line up in our lower parking lot to take their turns on the slide. If you have an hour on that day to represent Trinity and hand out water bottles – no skill required! -- please sign up on the sheet on the front door. We also need to borrow some coolers from parishioners so we can ice down the water. We thank the Brotherhood of St. Andrew for purchasing two coolers for church activities that they will lend for the event. If you have a Trinity turquoise or red t-shirt or a Brotherhood shirt, please wear that. If not, wear your Trinity name tag. Contact Brenda Chase or Claire Curcio if you have questions. We see this as an opportunity to connect with some younger families using the water slide, and we hope some of our younger parishioners will be among the volunteers that day.

Our family is looking forward to Rise Against Hunger Saturday at 2:30; hope to see you there.

We request everyone’s diligence in being sure the building is securely locked, lights are off, etc., during this time when we have reduced staff.

Thanks to all for your support in this time of transition. If you have comments or concerns, please get in touch with me or another Vestry member.

You don’t have to nail your theses on the church door!

BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK $3.51 per week to feed a child. - Trinity was involved in a pilot program for Blessings in a Backpack last year. The pilot consisted of weekend food packs prepackaged by Sysco and delivered directly to the church. This pilot of Weekend Food Packs was quite successful for the National Blessings in a Backpack Program. Trinity's volunteers found the program more beneficial also, because the foods (7-8 items per student package) came already prepackaged, no shopping was required, packing is streamlined and the food packs are much lighter to carry. Most especially the children loved it! Trinity will do the same thing this year and in addition to the food pack our volunteers will pack a microwaveable macaroni and cheese, soup or granola bar. The cost per week of the food pack is $2.76 for a total 36 week cost of $99.36. To include the macaroni and cheese it is $0.75 per week for a total 36 week cost of $27.00. The total cost to feed a child is $126.36 per year. The donation requested is $100.00. with funds remaining from last year to pay for the additional food item.  Currently, Trinitarians have sponsored 43 1/2 children. Our goal is to feed 120 children. Please help!

Our MONTHLY DROP-IN GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP meets again on Monday, August 19 from 3:00-4:30 PM in the Health Ministries Room, Rm. 14. Since its inception the group has met under the leadership of Randall Clingenpeel and beginning this month Ruth Brancolini will serve as co-leader. Please consider attending if/when grief issues feel overwhelming. Learning how to read a grief roadmap can contribute to a sense of peace. Contact Randall for more information.

AMANDA KOTVAL will be ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests on Saturday, Sept. 7, 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 12291 River Rd., Richmond 23238. A sign-up sheet for carpooling to the event has been posted on the doors in the church entryway. If you are willing to drive, please indicate how many riders you can take. Plan to meet in the College Ave. parking lot at 8 AM that morning.

TRINITY'S MUSIC PROGRAM will feature more instrumentalists, quartets, trios and duets this coming year. Please consider being part of the music at Trinity. All that is required is a desire to praise God through music and a general ability to sing or play an instrument! There will be a meeting in the choir room on Thursday, August 29th, at 7 PM for all that are interested. Contact Denise if you have questions!

There will be NO CAFÉ TRINITY on Sunday, September 1st, Labor Day Weekend!
