REAA NEWSLETTER
A newsletter to keep you informed about what's "up with arts."

Letter from the BOD President:
Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe summer is almost over, but here we are! We closed out an excellent 31st season of Summer Drama Workshop earlier this month, and now we are going full steam ahead towards our fall programs.

Auditions for the River's Edge Players production of The Addams Family musical start this weekend; we have just a couple of audition slots left, so make sure you sign up if you are interested!

We have a LOT of fall programs open for registration. Be sure to read below for details on all of them, including some longstanding favorites and some exciting new options for all ages.

And finally, as we close out the River's Edge Arts Alliance fiscal year and look to the end of the summer, I want to thank you, on behalf of our board of directors and staff, for your continued support. REAA exists to provide arts programming that matter to our community (that's you!), and every time you attend an event, register for a program, renew your membership, share a Facebook post, or make a donation, you're ensuring that our work continues to grow.

Best wishes for a restful August, and we hope to see you in the fall!

Sincerely,

Anna Klashka
President, REAA Board of Directors
RESOM: Fall Registration open NOW!

It's here, it's here! Fall registration is now open for the River's Edge School of Music. We're pleased to be offering private instruction in  woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments, as well as guitar, ukulele, piano, and voice. Visit the RESOM page to learn more about lesson details and to register!
We're also excited to introduce a NEW group course through RESOM this year: A Cappella for Teens! This class is a great way to build vocal skills and confidence in a supportive environment. It's a perfect opportunity for students grades 7 and up who aren't ready for or aren't interested in competitive, auditioned choirs offered at many schools. Visit the RESOM page to learn more about this new offering and to sign up for your student's spot today!

Our RESOM programs are open to students from ALL area school districts, not just Hudson! Limited financial aid is available on a case by case basis; contact us at [email protected] for more information about how to apply.

Sketching Hudson for Students

Looking for plans for your child on Columbus Day, 10/14? Students ages 10-14 are invited to register for our Sketching Hudson workshop with architect Ron Sorgman. We'll be learning about downtown Hudson's unique architecture and then sketching our favorite details. This event takes place on the Town Hall lawn, so it's a great opportunity to spend an early fall day in the fresh air. Pre-registration is required, so sign up now on the workshop webpage!

Adult Singing Fall Programs

Don't worry, it's not all about the kids - there's plenty of fun in store for the grown ups this fall, too.
The River's Edge Chorale is back this fall under the direction of Lisa Schliker. This group will rehearse at First United Methodist Church in Hudson on Tuesdays. The Chorale is always open to new members of all skill levels and vocal parts.

Rehearsals will begin in October, so keep an eye out for registration to open in the coming weeks!
Registration is now open for REHarmonix, our adult a cappella choir under the direction of Manoj Padki. REHarmonix is a welcoming, high-energy group with a varied repertoire. No audition is required! This group rehearses on Wednesday evenings at Hudson High School.

Open rehearsals will take place on August 21 and 28 (contact [email protected] for details!). Visit the REHarmonix page for more information and to sign up now!
Love to sing but not ready to commit to one of our regular choirs? We're happy to introduce a new opportunity to raise your voice and build community! Stop by Ground Effect Brewing Company on the first Thursday of each month between 7 and 8pm for a drop-in pub sing, Singin' the Brews. We'll be trying out all different kinds of a cappella music, from world music to sea shanties to seasonal favorites. No commitment, no fee - just music, beers, and fun. Visit our website for full details.

The Addams Family: a few good souls wanted!

The River's Edge Players are back this fall with The Addams Family musical October 25-27 at First Church in Marlborough. Auditions are August 11-13, and there are only a few spots left, so sign up now if you're interested!

It takes a village to put on a show, so we're looking for volunteers to help with sets, costumes, hair/makeup, props, publicity, ad sales, front of house... you name it! If you're interested in being involved off-stage, contact [email protected] and we'll put you to work!

Member Spotlight: Stephen Beccia

REAA member Stephen Beccia recently had his proposal for a mural accepted by Fitchburg's Activate Mill Street initiative. This project is an effort to highlight the potential of Fitchburg's public spaces and set the stage for new and vibrant arts activity in the city's downtown.

For Our Members

Are you an REAA member? If you are, you may have noticed we've been changing the way we manage our memberships. We received a generous grant this fall from the Foundation for MetroWest, which has allowed us to begin using Neon CRM, a new system that is streamlining the way we do all of our work, from program registrations and ticket sales, to member communications. This system allows us to remind you when your membership is up for renewal, so you don't miss out on the benefits we offer to our valued members throughout the year. If you see a message letting you know that your membership is due, make sure you jump on it and join us for the coming year!

In the future, this system will also help us make registration easier for our members and accessing your benefits even more convenient.

As always, we are grateful for your support of the arts through your membership. Every single dollar of your membership dues is having an immediate impact in our community:

  • One membership can help fund our Art in the Hall program for an entire year;
  • Five memberships provide art supplies for free community events throughout the year or purchase the rights for a short play production;
  • Ten annual memberships support a scholarship for a Summer Drama Workshop participant or provide a stipend to bring a first-class local musician to Hudson for a performance.
All memberships help keep ticket fees and participation costs down and help to defray operating costs so that we can continue to provide flagship programs and develop new ones, while keeping the arts accessible to all.

Individual membership ($50/year)
Household membership ($50/year)
Senior/student membership ($30/year, for individuals only)

Non-profit and arts organization membership ($60/year)

Want to help drive the arts in Hudson? Join our board!
Seeking candidates to join our
Board of Directors

If you're receiving this email, you already know better than most the power of the arts to build community and drive economic development in our area. Hudson and its surrounding area are in the midst of an impressive surge of regrowth, and we at REAA are doing everything we can to make sure the arts are central to that conversation.

If you are passionate about the arts...
If you want to help make lasting changes in Hudson and beyond...
If you care about the ways our community is growing and changing and want to be a part of it...

Join our Board of Directors! As a board member, you'll get to to provide feedback on our current programs, help guide new programming, and bring a fresh perspective to drive REAA priorities in the future. You'll help make our programs happen in a practical and immediate sense, attending meetings, volunteering at events, and acting as an advocate for the arts within your own circle.

A healthy board is a diverse board. An arts background is NOT a prerequisite! We also need appreciative audience members, professionals with financial expertise, leaders with broad nonprofit experience, parents of school age children and retirees... There's a seat at the table for a range of backgrounds, and we'd love to hear your voice.

There is NO financial commitment to join our board, just a love of the arts and community, and a passion to make the organization even stronger!  Please e-mail us at: [email protected] for an application or for more information.
