Meditation Moment

From the Pastor ....

There is no greater love than this—to lay down one’s life
for one’s friends.
 (John 15:13)
Holy Week is a spiritual marathon. It is the most meaningful week of the year. We begin the journey shouting praises of “Hosanna,” which means “save us.” This past Sunday was especially unique and memorable as we were blessed to have a miniature donkey lead a palm processional.

Holy Week covers a range of life experiences: the expectations of Palm Sunday, the broken heart of Maundy Thursday, the depths of suffering on Good Friday, the grief of Saturday, and the unexpected joy of Easter. The week starts on a high note, dives deep into the valley of the shadow of death, and re-emerges to a newfound height of a renewed faith.
As we journey to the cross and hear the story of Jesus’ deep love for the world, this is extremely comforting. Grief is all around us. We can sense that grief as a collective earth with the pandemic. Perhaps you carry a personal sorrow in your heart too. Last week I heard confirmation that my father has advanced and aggressive cancer. We are waiting this Thursday to hear from the oncologist about what his treatment plan will entail. In the midst of life’s uncertainties, there is one thing we can always count on. There is deep certainty of the depth of Christ’s love. Nothing can ever separate us from this love of Jesus. This reassurance is what causes us to proclaim shouts of joy on Easter, “Christ has risen, He has risen indeed! Alleluia.”
May your Holy Week journey be full of God’s presence and reassurance of Christ’s love.
Eternally ~ Pastor Karna
