Parents of Incoming 7th / 8th Grade Athletes, Welcome to Carroll Middle School!

Included in this letter you will find information regarding forms required for CMS Athletics, information regarding CMS Athletic Apparel to be worn daily, as well as some other FAQs that might be helpful. Every CISD student-athlete must have a cleared medical exam prior to try-outs and participation. You may obtain a physical exam from your doctor but they need to be dated after  April 17, 2019  and submitted to CMS before your student may participate in the athletic program.

REQUIRED FORMS:

 - UIL Athletic Participation Release(submit to Rank One)
 - CISD Athletic Participation Packet (submit to Rank One)
 - UIL Safety Training Acknowledgement (submit to Rank One)
 - Physical Form (emailed)

These forms, along with a physical form, can be found online here.
Please Note: Physical forms MUST BE DATED AFTER APRIL 17, 2019. All physicals must be submitted electronically to
No paper copies or physicals dated prior to April 17, 2019 will be accepted.

This year, CISD is under contract with Adidas. We have an online portal where Adidas Dragon Gear can be purchased for your athlete. Go online,   the link can be found here Enter sale code: 43SDQ to access the portal for CMS Boys Athletics.

Football: (Recommendation)
We recommend that you purchase at least one if not two pairs of the black football pants with the integrated pads. These are machine washable as is, so there is no hassle for you having to take the pads out each time you wash them at home. EVERYONE will wear black pants for practices and games. If your son wants to wear the long tights under his pants please be sure they are WHITE.

If you do not wish to purchase Dragon Gear through our Adidas ordering portal, we ask the shirts/shorts be within our school's 4 color scheme (green, grey, black, and white). Shorts must be black, must shirts may be green, grey, black, or white. If you have questions on this, please let us know.

FAQs
How will information be communicated to us parents?
We take pride in having open communication between coaches and parents. We will relay any information to you via email. With that being said, in order to ensure you receive that information please have all recipients' emails listed in Skyward because we pull our email list directly from there.

What if my son plays other sports outside of school?
We love our athletes to be multi-sport! However, if you are a part of the CMS Athletic Program, our expectation is that your son is able to attend every practice and every game. Failure to do so is addressed in the Middle School Handbook.

What is the difference between Athletics and PE?
Athletics is much more demanding. It is focused on building our team sports that will continue on up to the high school. All students enrolled in Athletics are required to compete in at least 1 sport.

What sports are cut sports?
Basketball is a cut sport. Football, Cross Country, and Track are non-cut sports. Track has time/distance qualifiers each week.

Is my son allowed to bring his own equipment?
Yes, we do allow athletes to bring their own equipment as long as it has been inspected by one of our coaches and is up to date on inspections. We do have top of the line equipment available to you if you do not want to purchase your own.

Important Dates:
August 21st ---- Athletic Parent Information Meeting from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Girls
Parents of incoming 7th and 8th grade athletes,

Welcome to Carroll Middle School. We are so excited to have you as a part of our athletic program. In this letter, you will find information regarding forms that are required for CMS Athletics, information regarding apparel to be worn daily and a few other pieces of information about the program.

Every CISD student-athlete must have a cleared medical exam prior to tryouts and any participation. You may obtain a physical exam from your doctor but they need to be dated after April 17, 2019 and submitted to the CMS Coordinator before your student may participate in our athletic program.  Also required is the CISD-Athletic Participation Release, CISD-Athletic Participation Packet and UIL Safety Training Acknowledgement that is done through Rank One.

These forms, along with a physical form, can be found online on our Carroll Website under the Athletics Tab.
Here is the link as well for Rank One.

Please note that physical forms must be emailed to the girls coordinator at
[email protected].
We will not be accepting hard copies, please keep those for your records.

CMS Athletics Apparel
We have a wonderful opportunity to purchase Dragon Gear through Adidas. Information on the portal will be sent in an another email.

All workout attire for Carroll Girls Athletics needs to be black including sweats, shorts and shirts. If you do not wish to purchase Dragon Gear through the Adidas portal, we ask that the base of the shirts be black (if there is anything on the shirt it needs to be within our color scheme: green, black, white) and shorts need to be black base with same color scheme restrictions. If you have any questions on this please let us know.

I would recommend 2-3 sets of clothes for every day of the week. There will be consequences for not being properly dressed out each day.

What is the difference between Athletics and PE?
Athletics is much more demanding. It is focused on building our team sports that will continue on up to the high school. All students enrolled in athletics are required to compete in at least 1 sport during our Fall Semester to receive their credit for the year. This has changed from the previous year. The sports offered in the fall are volleyball, basketball, and cross country. If you try out for volleyball or basketball and do not make the team, you will be required to participate fully in cross country including all meets. Track is offered in the spring and is not included in fall semester.

What sports are cut sports?
Volleyball and basketball. Track has tryouts each week and only the top 3 athletes in each event are allowed to participate in meets. Cross country is a non-cut sport.
