Self-monitoring at home
Anyone who is sick should not come onto campus.

Self-monitoring for symptoms before leaving home is the first step in stopping the spread in our community and keeping our schools open.

What to do if a scholar feels sick at home:

Know the symptoms:
  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
Help protect yourself and others by preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our communities by getting tested. Find a free testing event near you at scdhec.gov/GetTested.

Getting to School
Coming in a car?

Please drop off at the back entrance of the school. See the graphic for details. This is critical to the safety and well-being of our scholars and staff. Come down Grove Street and enter at then end of the road to your right. Scholars should have a mask on when exiting the vehicle.

Afternoon pick up will be in the same area.

Scholar Parking
We are not charging a parking fee this year, but we will have registration information for you this week in CREW. Please park in the school parking lot and not in the neighborhood or at Food Lion. We need to be good neighbors and we do not want your car towed.
Scholar Dress Code and Uniform Guidelines
CCSMS scholars are responsible for wearing the designated school uniform at all times while on school property and while involved in school activities unless otherwise directed by the administration that it is a non-uniform day. Wearing appropriate attire promotes a positive influence on the school climate. The Administration has the ultimate authority to determine compliance with the school dress code and will make the final determination of all dress code compliance issues. Scholars will be given warnings and will be given opportunities to borrow clothing from the CCSMS clothing closet. Scholars found to be in repeated violation of the dress code will be subject to corrective action.

If scholars do not have a uniform, please contact the front office and we will provide one from our donation room.
Masks On, Please
Masks are required at CCSMS.

Please note that CCSD is not allowing neck scarves, bandanas, gaiters, and masks with exhalation valves or vents.

The following information can be found in the Family Resource Manual and Scholar Code of Conduct:

To reduce the spread of the Covid-19 during the pandemic, CCSMS will require face masks on campus. This is to be effective until further notice and will align with or supersede CCSMS and district policies, including, but not limited to, scholar dress codes related to face coverings.

The school may amend these requirements as necessary to meet health and safety guidelines.

A face covering is a piece of fabric, cloth, or other material that covers the wearer’s nose, mouth, and chin simultaneously and is secured to the wearer’s face by elastic, ties, or other means. Acceptable face coverings may be homemade, and they may be reusable or disposable.

Not Acceptable: Neck scarves, bandanas, gaiters and masks with exhalation valves or vents.

All scholars will wear face coverings while on CCSMS and CCSD district property, on CCSMS transportation, or attending a school related activity (e.g. athletic events, field trips, etc.). Certain classes or activities may be granted a limited exception to this requirement at the discretion of the CCSMS administration.

If scholars need a disposable mask for the day one will be provided prior to boarding the bus or coming into the building.

Exceptions for wearing a face covering (both faculty and students) may include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
  • mealtimes
  • outdoor recess where students can maintain a physical distance of at least six (6) feet
  • administration of medication
  • planned and socially distanced mask breaks

Accommodations
Requests for exceptions under this policy for health or developmental conditions or religious exemption will be considered by the superintendent or his/her designee, who may request documentation justifying the exception. The wearing of a face shield or other PPE may be required.
Students (or parents/legal guardians) who request to be exempted from wearing a face covering for other than a health or developmental condition or religious exemption will be offered virtual learning for the period that face coverings are required on district property.

Harassment and Bullying
CCSMS will not tolerate harassment of anyone wearing face coverings or those with recognized exemptions to the face covering requirement and will appropriately discipline students, staff, or visitors who engage in behavior that interferes with any student or staff member’s ability to comply with this policy.

Discipline
Failure or refusal to wear a face covering by a staff member or student may result in discipline in accordance with CCSMS and district policy and codes of conduct, as applicable.
Afternoon Academy
We will offer afternoon Academy on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 5:45pm.

The cost is $15 per day.

Pick up will be at the Auditorium Lobby entrance. Parents and guardians will come to those doors to pick up. It will be a paperless process with the parent or guardian remaining outside of the building.

Families who indicated their interest received an email on Friday.

Please email the frontoffice@charlestonmathscience.org for additional sign up information.
