CULTURE DAYS IN ST. CATHARINES
 
September 27, 28 & 29, 2019
Culture Days is a Canada-wide celebration that is the largest-ever public participation campaign undertaken by the arts and cultural community in this country. Culture Days features FREE hands-on family-friendly activities that invite the public to participate in the "behind-the-scenes" experiences.

St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program (SCCIP)  Application Materials Now Available

DEADLINE: Friday October 25, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

Application materials are now available on the City's website for the following programs:
  • Sustaining - Festival
  • Arts Development
  • Culture Builds Community
Applications must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on deadline day. No late applications will be accepted.

EXHIBITIONS

2019 City of St. Catharines Annual Juried Exhibit:
Transformations
Public Opening Reception: Friday, September 27, 2019, 4 pm
Where: St. Catharines City Hall, 3rd Floor, 50 Church Street
On display from September 23, 2019 to March 2020

Artists were invited to submit artwork that investigates the positive and negative transitions and transformations that shape human beings and the world.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS: Emily Andrews, Yvonne Benyo, Irma Bull, Danny Custodio, Renu D'Cunha,  Sandy Fairbairn, Janny Fraser,  Janet Ingrao, Arnold McBay, Colleen McTigue, Lauren Regier,  Kaitlyn Roberts, Jon Shaw, Bruce Thompson, Kim Van Stygeren,  Art Weaver and Jan Yates .

 
Seasons
On display at St. Catharines City Hall, 3rd Floor, 50 Church Street until September 4, 2019.  This responsive series is in partnership with three local secondary schools: Saint Francis Catholic, Sir Winston Churchill, and Laura Secord. The works on display respond to three pieces from the City's Civic Art Collection. 

Carl Beam: Us & Everything
On display in the Joy Williams Lobby at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre until December 2019.  An exhibit of works by contemporary Indigenous artist Carl Beam. Carl Beam (Ojibwe, 1943 - 2005), is one of the most important artists in Canadian Contemporary Art History, noted as the first Canadian of Native Ancestry to have his work purchased by the National Gallery of Canada as Contemporary Art.

On display in Film House Gallery at the the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre until December 2019. In Partnership with the St. Catharines Museum.

Dancing in Montebello Park
Select Sundays from 6 pm to 8 pm

Enjoy the sounds of local musicians in Montebello Park. Bring your chair or blanket and enjoy the show. Performers will play in the bandshell and the pavilion will be available for dancing.

1. Guided Museum Tours
Throughout August,  Thursdays at 10:30 am and Sundays at 1 pm.
$5.00/person donation
Guided public tours of the Museum Galleries and Fallen Workers Memorial.  Explore your local history while enjoying your community museum (and air conditioning!) These tours are fully accessible.
2. End of Summer Bash
Tuesday, August 27 | 6 pm to 8 pm
$5.00/person donation 
Join the Museum for an evening of fun as they close out the summer with live entertainment, oversized carnival games, ice cream-making, and much more! This is an end-of-summer party you won't want to miss!

Driftwood Theatre presents Shakespeare under the stars!  A (Musical) Midsummer Night's Dream 
Sunday August 18 |  7:30pm 
Mann Raceway Plaza  (Located directly behind the FirstOntario PAC)
A Midsummer Night's Dream. This summer, Driftwood Theatre celebrates 25 years of The Bard's Bus Tour by revisiting Shakespeare's most magical, musical story.
No advance tickets required. Pay-what-you-can to support the artists. (Suggested $20.) Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. Or reserve a seat (click link below) for $30-$35. Performance will move indoors if it rains.   

Celebration of Nations
September 6 to 8
An Indigenous arts gathering that celebrates creativity, diversity and resilience. Held annually at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.

The Cultural Services office is a division of the City of St. Catharines' Parks, Recreation and Culture Services department. Cultural Services focuses on public art, community development, planning and policy related to arts and culture in the City of St. Catharines.
