Legislative
Did you receive the
recent legislative alert
? Did you act on it? If so, thank you! SB 323 (Wieckowski) is a nightmare bill. We were originally successful in getting positive changes to the bill, which has been flying through the legislative committees. These positive changes were negotiated in good faith with the senator and his staff.
However, in the end, the senator pulled out the language we believed was successfully negotiated. Accordingly, we are asking for your help in a full court press in opposition to this bill. We all were successful last year in defeating a similar bill. Let’s come together as one and defeat this nightmare yet again. Email us at
communications@cacm.org
for a copy of the alerts and links to the appropriate information. Thank you in advance for your voice.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors needs your help, as a board member. You have the experience. You have been involved. So what are you waiting for? The Nominating Committee is
actively seeking applications
for interested board candidates. That’s you. Make a difference in the California CID industry. The Board of Directors helps define our industry’s best practices. Be a part of it. The Board meets six times a year at various locations throughout California.
Vision Awards
Have you nominated someone yet for a
Vision Award
? Um, why not? You, a team member or a colleague deserve industry recognition for all of the hard work, support and accomplishments you have achieved for your company and the clients you serve. It would be my honor to recognize you under the lights on stage at the black tie/ball gown optional awards ceremony at the
NorCal
or the
SoCal Law Seminar
. We’re even planning on having a band to follow your recognition.
CACM Website
Do you agree that our website has been, well, difficult to work with, to be kind? Well, have you visited the site lately? We heard your concerns and challenges regarding the website, and we had a
brand new website
developed that is now operational. Go check it out. It’s modern. It’s sleek. It functions at whatever the technical IT term is for really fast.
Lastly, how can I help you? After all, that is why we’re here. Have an idea that would change the industry? Maybe a suggestion for a local event? How about a legislative initiative we should focus on. Let me know. CACM is here for you. We are #CACMStrong when we communicate.

Take action on SB 323
Have you reached out to your legislator yet on SB 323? There’s still time to voice your opposition. The bill allows a member convicted of a financial felony to run for the board. This and many other details make this bill a bad idea for the community management industry and homeowners associations. The bill will be heard on the Assembly floor sometime between August 12 and September 13. So take action. We give you all of the background on the bill, a list of legislators to reach out to and a sample letter on
our website
.

Although we’ve heard the saying “you get what you pay for,” many of us ignore this old adage, continue to try our luck and hope it does not apply to us. Not surprisingly, this seems to hold true with board members in search of a new manager or management company. Generally, it isn’t long before the board realizes that the rule does apply … they are getting what they are paying for.
