OUT
AND ABOUT IN THE COMMUNITY
Year-round, the libra
ry is out and about attending community festivals and events, and summer is our "high season." Last week alone, we attended the 2nd Annual Inclusion Festival, the Red Morton Park Family Campout, and two National Night Out events! A
Starship Technologies robot delivered children's books to the Library Director's storytime at the Roosevelt/Central Neighborhood Association event on National Night Out. Come find our table at
Fiestas Patrias and the
Redwood City Salsa Festival in September! In October, we will be at the annual
PortFest.
NEW BUZZ FROM THE LIBRARY BEES
The library bees have been busy this summer! The hives now have a
livestream available 8am-7pm daily here. Take a breather and watch the library bees hard at work. The bees also have their own Facebook page,
RCPL Bees. Follow them to learn when the next batch of honey will be available from the
Friends of the Redwood City Public Library, and for more educational content about bees and beekeeping.
HONORING CHUCK ASHTON
The California Library Association recently announced this year's inductees into the California Library Hall of Fame. They include our very own, Chuck Ashton (1948-2019)! Chuck was Youth Services manager here at Redwood City Public Library. Chuck was known for his popular Families for Literacy story hours and as a result was awarded CLA's first Outstanding Librarian in Support of Literacy award (2003). We are so proud! GRANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Redwood City Library Foundation recently received grants totaling over $100,000. The grant from California Public Utilities Commission will help address two prime
concerns - inequities in access to technology and broadband internet access, and the need for tech-literate workers in the 21st century.
In addition, Wells Fargo awarded Redwood City Library Foundation a grant for ongoing support of the Bridging the Digital Divide project. The grant enables Wells Fargo and the Foundation to work together to empower change for the better and provide internet connection and digital resources to families who need it most.
