DCAN is here to help
Fall classes will be here before we know it - many have already started. That's why DCAN is sending students and counselors this newsletter with resources to understand fall college opening plans.

To get you started, here's a list of our top schools, with links to more information on their individual opening plans:

In the sections below, we've provided more information as you go through the next couple of weeks. As you do, we encourage you to:

  1. Ask for help.
  2. Check your emails.
  3. Take care of yourself.

DCAN's Ashley Johnson joins DPTV COVID313 Community Coalition Virtual Town Hall

From DPTV: "Ashley Johnson of the Detroit College Access Network has a team of counselors that can help, especially for college for just graduated seniors who’ve had to make a change of plans because of the pandemic. Her talk was one of the highlights of this week’s COVID313 Virtual Town Hall meeting.

Please join the COVID313 Virtual Town Hall for Families and Students every Thursday starting at noon, featuring experts talking about coronavirus, education and school updates, accessing basic needs, and keeping your family healthy.

You can watch live through the Detroit Public Television Facebook Page."
THANK YOU TO OUR
2019-2020 VISTAS!
This year's VISTAs have provided DCAN with invaluable service and support. Justin and Patrick have led some of our most successful programs and supported DCAN with expanding into new, impactful areas.

We are so very grateful that they selected to partner with DCAN. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!

"I learned a lot about myself, including strengths, weaknesses, and interests. I also learned a lot of skills in project management, web development, data tracking, communications and event planning. I'm confident these skills will transfer over and help me in future positions and become organized in graduate school.

My favorite part of my role was managing the Get Schooled platform and DCAN's Get Schooled partnership. Serving through the pandemic meant a lot to me because, although I was going through rough times, I knew students were going through rough times as well and needed support. Many of them did not have access to resources they would at school and I'm glad the DCAN team had the chance to celebrate with the class of 2020 through our Virtual Decision Day Event back in June."

"Serving with DCAN for the past year has been an incredible experience. I have been so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work not just with the DCAN team but so many other dedicated individuals who come together year after year to support Detroit's students. While there will always be more work to do I cannot help but finish my year at DCAN feeling inspired by how the Network has continued to be a foundational support for students even through these unprecedented times."
