Hunterdon Freeholders Recognize Parental Choice During
School Choice Week

Hunterdon County’s Freeholder Board, at the January 21
st
meeting, recognized the many educational options for school children and their parents by designating the week of January 26 to February 1, 2020 as School Choice Week in Hunterdon County, as part of the National School Choice Week program.
Freeholder Board Director Shaun C. Van Doren stated, “Quality education is critically important to the economic vitality of the County and we are fortunate that Hunterdon County is home to many high-quality public and nonpublic schools from which parents can choose for their children, in addition to families who choose to educate their children in the home."
Van Doren added, “Education plays a significant role in preparing students to be successful adults and school choice serves the educational principles of Hunterdon County families. It gives parents the power to make choices for their children, based on their values, beliefs, needs, interests and learning styles.

Hunterdon County Mosquito
And Vector Control Division Recognized By State For
'Great Results'

This past December, Hunterdon County’s Mosquito and Vector Control Division (HCMVDC) was recognized for efficiency, having well-trained staff, and being effective by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES), after a review of the HCMVDCs report outlining work completed in 2019 and plans for the upcoming 2020 year.
Freeholder Board Deputy Director and Department of Health Liaison, Susan J. Soloway, said, “This report confirms what we already knew: our Department Of Health’s Vector Division is both well prepared and well equipped. Tadhgh and the staff are educated and qualified, offering tools and services to other counties and towns when needed, making Hunterdon’s Vector Division a model for the state to follow.”

Emergency Dispatchers Receive Visits From Service Dogs To Combat On The Job Stress
|
|
The Hunterdon County Department of Public Safety Communication Division employs twenty-seven Public Safety Telecommunicators (PST), or 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers, and because there are multiple demands placed on each dispatcher as they answer calls for numerous police departments, fire companies, first aid squads and mobile intensive care units, the opportunity to visit with service dogs, on site, is a very successful source of stress relief.
Freeholder Matt Holt, Public Safety Liaison said, “No one calls 9-1-1 with good news. It is a demanding position that requires the ability to react at a moment’s notice, gathering resources and help, while remaining calm and recognizing they are that person’s ‘life-line’ until first responders arrive at the scene. Service dogs, and other animal programs, provide a few minutes of relief during a dispatcher’s shift.”
