CONVERSATION IN MANAYUNK
On July 17 in Manayunk, 50 women gathered at Kismet Cowork for our first "Meet Learn Connect" conversation about Impact100. Founders Fellow Nia Daye expertly moderated a conversation with members, guests, and Impact co-founders Beth Dahle and Mary Broach about how our organization got off the ground. Beth and Mary talked about first hearing of the Impact 100 model, then forming the founding board of directors, and determining grant policies. They shared how the reality of Impact100 far surpassed their expectations—from the impact of our collective grants, to the experience of being an all-women's organization, to the intellectual challenge and fun of our proposal review process.
Newcomers to Impact100 asked some very thoughtful questions: How does the group discussion work when you're evaluating proposals? What kind of follow-up do you have with grantees? Will you ever put a cap on the number of members who can join?
The answer to that last question is an emphatic
No
. This organization is truly "the more the merrier." While our members, applicants and grantees may shift year to year, there is one constant: Our finalists' compelling proposals and effective work always make us wish we had even more funds to support them.

IMPORTANT FOR THE NEW YEAR:
A CHANGE IN OUR FUNDING REGION
New for the 2020 grants, Impact100 Philadelphia's funding region will include only the five-county Philadelphia region in Pennsylvania, and will
no longer include Camden County, NJ
.
This decision was made with mixed feelings, as Impact100 Philly has funded several outstanding Camden organizations over the years, and our members are proud and honored to have made those connections. However, there is a positive reason for this change. At our founding in 2008, we were the only Impact100 organization operating in the Mid-Atlantic Region. As collective giving has grown as a movement, the Impact100 model has spread, and there is now a New Jersey Impact100 group that funds Camden County. Because we are still the only Impact100 providing funding to Pennsylvania organizations, we feel it's best to keep our funds within the state.
Our very best wishes to the outstanding organizations in Camden that we have come to know and admire over the past 11 years, and to our sister organizations in New Jersey, especially Impact100 South Jersey!

Nora Elmarzouky
became an Impact100 Philadelphia Founders Fellow in 2017. Relatively new to Philly at the time, Nora was just beginning to collaborate on a unique and extensive arts project that would grow to include 5 book artists and 15 families recently resettled in Philadelphia from Iraq and Syria. The three resulting exhibits,
Friends, Peace, and Sanctuary
, premiered at Swarthmore College last April and are wrapping up in spaces around the city now. Read more about Nora and FPS's work
here
.
About her Impact membership, Nora says, "I wa
s aware of Impact from the proposal side, working at Al Bustan Seeds of Culture, and was interested based on watching the projects Impact had funded in the past, and seeing the rigor of the application process. My membership connects me to women doing amazing work across the city, women who care about the things I care about. I wanted to be part of that funding process and that strong female space, and I wanted to bring my diverse perspective having worked internationally with lots of institutions around the world. I love that Impact is volunteer-led, it's a giving circle, and it's not a typical philanthropic institution. That's what drew me to it. It's been great being part of the group."
Anyone interested in seeing
Friends
at 12 Gates Arts is encouraged to go before the show closes on August 15. Send any questions to Nora at
