Headmaster's Update
Dear Lakehill Community:

Over the past several weeks, we have shared our comprehensive Guide to Reopening Lakehill with you, and have invited families to get their questions answered in division-specific Question and Answer sessions.
Welcoming students back in the safest manner possible is our goal, and we are continuing to fine-tune our plan and our procedures daily.

Lakehill’s plan remains to begin classes through distance learning on August 24, 2020, and move to in-person classes on campus beginning September 8.

Parents and students will attend online information sessions on August 20, or August 21. In those sessions, students will meet their teachers and will go over information regarding our distance-learning program. All information sessions will be held via Zoom. The Zoom links will be sent out in an email the day before the session.

Saying Hello
Jacqui Nickell joins the Lakehill staff this year as Director of Marketing and Community Relations.

A Dallas-area native, Nickell graduated from high school in Melissa, Texas. She earned a B.A. in Education from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Education from Texas State University.

Now in her fifth year of working in schools, including two years teaching third and sixth grades as well as coaching basketball, Nickell previously served as the Director of Communication and Digital Media at International Leadership of Texas - Garland High School.

A neighborhood resident with strong roots in the community, Nickell has four older brothers, three sisters-in-law, three nephews, and a niece on the way. Her parents also live in the Lakewood area. “If I am not at work, I am typically chasing around my nephews with my mom.”

A sports and outdoor enthusiast, Nickell enjoys anything active, especially running, biking, and kayaking. She played basketball and tennis in college and continues to play both sports. Nickell also loves to travel. She has traveled extensively in Europe and Africa, including a two-week camping trip from Cape Town, South Africa, to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. She loves cooking and enjoys sharing her home-cooked meals with friends and family.

"I am passionate about people," says Nickell, who believes strongly in building relationships and getting to know others. To achieve this, she follows her dad’s sound advice: "Listen more; speak less.” Nickell says the best part of her job is interacting with students and highlighting all of the school’s accomplishments. "Watching the students grow, learn, and excel is exhilarating!”

Nickell believes that Lakehill’s small size and family atmosphere create a unique opportunity for everyone involved. “I am looking forward to learning about all things Lakehill and to truly immersing myself in the Lakehill community."
Saying Goodbye
Gigi Ekstrom retires today, after 12 years as Lakehill’s Director of Marketing and Community Relations.

“Honestly, after 13 years at Lakehill as a parent and 12 as the Marketing Director, it's hard to imagine my life without Lakehill," says Ekstrom. "I really am going to miss it all - the arts performances, athletic competitions, and every event that makes Lakehill so special and unique. What I will miss the most are the people - the teachers, staff, students, and parents who bring Lakehill to life. It has been a privilege to be able to share their amazing stories with others. I am grateful to everyone who joined me on the journey and made this such an amazing place to call home.”
