Building in Jefferson Park - a special neighborhood

Special rules for building in Jefferson Park
Jefferson Park is an Historic District and one of only two neighborhoods in Tucson designated a "Neighborhood Preservation Zone"  which means there are special guidelines that protect the integrity of the neighborhood.

The neighborhood Land Use Committee (LUC) has created a special section, " Building/Historic Status", on jeffersonpark.info to help neighbors and their contractors  understand the special circumstances.

There are links to information sources.  So before considering additions or rebuilds, check it out. They hope it helps!
TPD & Residents
Safety Meetings
Central  Neighborhoods - Tuesdays
J une 25, July 23, August 27
6:30, Ward III Office, 1510 E. Grant Road

Police representatives from mid-town and west side meet with neighbors to talk about safety concerns in the neighborhoods.  Join residents of Jefferson Park and nearby neighborhoods to learn about trends.

Do you know how to keep your home safe during the summer?
NOTES FROM THE MAY MEETING: Nine  TPD officers attend our meeting!  Here are their suggestions:
1.      Keep garage door closed. Avoid car break ins and an easy access to your home;               the door from the garage to the house is usually not as secure as other doors.                   Tools in your garage help make break in easier.
2.      Window A/C - make sure it is very secure, especially if you go out of town, or are               gone for long periods. Cut a wooden or metal dowel so window can't be lifted.
3.      Evaporative coolers - be sure to close windows/doors when you leave.
4.      Ask a trusted neighbor or someone to check your house while you are away. Clear           flyers from stacking up.
5.      Put a hold on mail and newspapers.
6.      Don't invite crime; Keep bicycles and other valuables out of sight.
7.      Don't hide keys outside.
8.      Watch out for scams.
9.      Trim shrubbery away from windows and doors.
10.    If away for summer, keep blinds closed.
11.    If away for summer, take computer games, etc. out of house.

Banner Invitation - Campbell/Grant Mural
Mural at Campbell Grant
Dear Neighbors,

We are excited to share with you the latest project at Banner-University Medicine. Starting this week, you will see artists painting murals on 5 walls around Tucson. We commissioned the muralists to create a space that represents our community. They should be completed by early next week. Once completed, the movie theater wall on Grant and Campbell will be the largest mural in Tucson. ... We are also hosting a community event with the artists on
June 15, 9am-1pm at the Boys and Girls Club on Grant/Country Club.
We hope you will join us to meet the artists, paint and enjoy food and giveaways.

City Elections coming! Primary is August 27!
The City-wide elections this year will be August 27 for the Primary and November 5 for the General and Special Election. Since this is a City-only election, it is a Vote-By-Mail election. To get detailed information about this election please go to the Clerk's election website ( https://www.tucsonaz.gov/clerks/elections ) and scroll down to 2019 City of Tucson Elections - What You Need to Know and download the PDF file.

In Tucson, we vote by Ward in the primary election and City-wide in the general election, so it is important, regardless of what ward you live in that you are registered to vote by the Primary election deadline of July 29, 2019.
The Mayor and Wards 1 and 4 are all open seats (no incumbent is running for re-election). Councilmember Paul Cunningham is running for re-election in Ward 2 and will face an opponent in the general election. The Ward 1 seat will most likely be decided in the primary election since there is no opposition party in that race.
Without support from our elected officials, neighborhood needs will continue to languish so please get to the debates, ask questions, and cast your informed vote.
Candidate Forum:
Candidates with Primary Election challengers for upcoming City of Tucson elections, which includes three Mayoral Candidates and four Ward One Candidates, will participate in a forum sponsored by neighborhood and community organizations.  The event will take place on:
Saturday, June 22, 2019
El Rio Neighborhood Center, 1390 W. Speedway Boulevard
12 noon sharp

Banner Hospital patients who wander...
There have been reports of patients leaving the Banner property and short-cutting through the neighborhood.  These folks are in various states of health.  Patients who are on foot are sometimes at risk, and are not good for Banner, nor for the neighborhood

if you witness any wandering patients or find any tossed bandages, etc.
If the situation warrants, call 911

TRRG - Yes, it is a mouthful! but it does good work for neighborhoods.

As an organization, TRRG puts on forums and workshops, holds annual meetings and provides printed materials to elected officials and staff about issues important to neighborhoods. They cannot do that without the help of their members.

Yearly dues are only $10 per member. Please, if you have not sent them your dues for 2019, consider doing that today. Just get onto the TRRG website ( https://tucsontrrg.org ) and click on the yellow box to the right on the home page. You can send your check to them or pay by Credit card or PayPal.
