Hello Sloan Creek Families,
Our staff is working hard to create an experience that is second to none for your children whether they are with us virtually or face to face this school year.
Our teachers are getting excited about the chance to connect with each child very soon. As a reminder, the first three weeks of school will be in the virtual setting before we are slated to transition to face to face learning for those who have selected this option on Tuesday, September 8.
Our main focus is to put your child's health at the forefront of our planning process. You will notice in future communications that we have made many changes and renovations in order to keep our students safe while on campus this year.
Some of the safety changes we have made this year:
- Requiring masks on campus for all students and staff.
- Changing the bell schedule from a 9 period day to a 4 period block schedule where students will have A Days and B Days. This will reduce the number of hallway transitions from 10 transitions to 5 throughout the day.
- Click here for a digital copy of our A/B Block Schedule starting August 7th.
- Moving from 2 lunches to 4 lunches which will reduce the number of students in each lunch (approximately 100 with the current number of face to face students we have enrolled).
- For lunch seating, we will be using student desks set up in the cafe so students have a safe spacing between them rather than 12 seat cafeteria tables.
- Structured classroom movement breaks will be scheduled in lieu of recess time, but students will continue have socially distanced PE class.
- Altered hallway traffic in the building such as creating one-way traffic around the library so the likelihood of students coming face to face is decreased.
- We will also use the courtyard to allow students to move from one end of the building to the other.
- Increased monitoring of restrooms during class times and passing periods to reduce the number of students in a given restroom at a time
- Ensuring student desks are spread out in the classroom, all facing forward.
- Revamping the drop off and pick up lines to allow for social distancing.
- Limiting deliveries to medical necessities only.
- No lockers will be used this year. All student belongings must fit into their backpack.
These are just a few of the changes that will be made at Sloan Creek. As more changes are considered and plan to be executed, I will continue to update you as to what those are.
Since the first three weeks will be online, we will once again offer to check out devices to any students who need one in order to join their classes online. If you have a device at home that your child can use, I encourage you to not check one out from the school as these devices are limited. The sign up to reserve your device can be found below.
We can't stress enough how excited the teachers and staff are to see your children’s’ faces again. There is a different kind of energy than ever before at this time of the summer. The one thing you and your children will hear me say over and over is, “Protect Our School Experience”. What I mean by this is we will have very clear expectations when your children are on campus. Adults and children alike will have to follow these guidelines so our school experience is not taken away from us again. As a parent, you can also help “Protect Our School Experience” by reinforcing these new expectations to your children. Is this how we want school to be? No. But, in order for us to return to what we think school is supposed to be, we have to do this kind of school the best we can.
Learning Environment
The Planning Guide for 2020-2021, should help answer many of the questions we have received about specifics for each learning environment for the upcoming school year. Parents will have the opportunity to change their selection prior to **
