Northern Stage is Sharing with NWPL
Scripts and Vouchers for Tickets
Our friends at Northern Stage in WRJ have donated a copy of each script (and one soundtrack) from their current 20th anniversary season of shows to the NWPL. These scripts and CD have been added to our collection and are available for circulation. The scripts are for
A Doll's House (9/20-10/29);
Robert Frost: This Verse Business (10/5-28);
Only Yesterday (1/31-2/18);
Disgraced (2/28-3/18); and
Noises Off (4/11-5/13). The CD is Disney's
The Little Mermaid (11/15-1/7).
In addition, Northern Stage has graciously donated vouchers for free tickets to their shows. We will award tickets throughout the year in various ways to members of our community. Stay tuned for more details!

Join us *at the Woodstock History Center* for this event where Murray Dewart will read from his anthology Poems About Sculpture. One of the poems is about Hiram Powers, whose bust America is in the History Center's collection and will be available for viewing.

Native American Thanksgiving:
Completing the Circles of Life
Michael Caduto entertains with humorous and dramatic characters and animal voices. Audience members are invited to accompany the songs, chants, native instruments and dance.
This entertaining performance explores the true meaning of thanksgiving in indigenous cultures. Stories are carefully chosen from among the Native peoples of North America.
Participants are introduced to the Circles of Giving and Receiving--the traditional basis for living in balance with Earth and each other. Includes stories from Michael's storytelling CD's:

China is fast becoming a global political and economic leader. And with more than 1.3 billion native speakers, modern Chinese is the most widely used language in the world. Yet, among Westerners, it has a reputation as one of the most difficult languages to master.
Brooks Jealous lived and worked in China for 8 years. As a long-term Chinese student, he has developed some interesting perspectives on learning Chinese in a way that leverages the unique characteristics of this fascinating language.

Classics Book Discussion:
The Ginger Man
by J. P. Donleavy
The next book we will discuss is a classic of the 1950s,
The book has sold 45 million copies world-wide and has never been out of print. It was named one of the 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century by the Modern Library in 1998.
First published in Paris in 1955, the book is set in Dublin in post-war 1947. Upon its publication, the book was banned in Ireland and the U.S. by reason of obscenity.
Donleavy is seen by critics as one of the post-war greats, in the company of Hemingway, Steinbeck and DosPassos. Donleavy died recently at age 91.

Art Exhibit
Lynda Knisley's years as an Art Educator to learners of every age have resulted in a definition of art-making that is flexible and broad. The intersection of unconventional materials and her responses to Vermont barns and vintage protraits yield "reminders of people and places we know, if only by imagination where clock time cannot intrude."
We find fewer noble barn structures in our landscape and fewer vintage fashion statements packed in attic trunks. To honor them, fragments of text, rusty oddments, and "found materials" make each assemblage unique in availability and style.

Qigong withGerry Sandweiss
In Qigong, your awareness is awakened in the first lesson and benefits accrue immediately. When practiced, Qigong helps to reawaken our sense of joy. No equipment needed except one's body.
Gerry Sandweiss has been a student and practitioner Qigong for fifteen years. Classes will be held Saturday mornings at 8:30. Classes held on the NWPL mezzanine - enter through back door of library. Please wear loose clothing and bring a mat and notebook. These classes are suitable for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Norman Williams Public Library in Woodstock, Vermont seeks applications from substitute librarians to cover occasional shifts including Saturdays on our busy children's and adult circulation desks. NWPL Art Committee gifts
The shows curated by the NWPL Art Committee have become so popular, they are now booking into 2019 for solo shows, as well as our seasonal group shows. In addition, our NWPL Art Committee is enriching the library community by adding to our collection. We now are able to offer passes to the Shelburne Museum and the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center AND subscriptions to Plein Air and Art New England!
