Building Faith, Character, and Excellence

Congratulations to the 2019 Homecoming Court
Congratulations and thank you to our students for waiting out the 168-hour delay for the Homecoming King and Queen announcement. The weather was not our friend for the September 27th game against Penn, so the ceremony was pushed to October 4th's tilt against Mishawaka.

It was a chilly night on the field, but thankfully our chivalrous gentlemen were generous, lending their jackets to their dates whenever needed.

At halftime TJ Freeby and Mary Jane Nolan received recognition as our 2019 Homecoming King and Queen!
The Theology Department certainly embraced our "Decade Day" theme during Spirit Week by dressing as the Decades of the Rosary, specifically the different
Glorious Mysteries.

Moving left to right we have Mrs. Fink as the Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth, Ms. McLinden as the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, Mr. Culver as the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Mr. Oross as the Ascension, and Mr. Kostielney as the Resurrection.

Sports Report:
Go Indians!
Boys' tennis began team play in the state tournament this week, defeating both Riley and Clay 5-0 to claim the sectional championship. Saint Joe then claimed a regional semi-final win against Penn before ultimately falling to LaPorte, 3-2. Great team season all-around!

Three St. Joe runners earned 2019 All-NIC Cross Country Honors. In the 13 team conference only 21 runners earn all conference status, making this honor a very meaningful one. Conference honors are determined solely by placement at the conference championship meet, which was held October 5th. Alexis Kintzele earned Second-Team All-NIC, while Marko Enriquez and Josh Juday earned Honorable Mention All-NIC.

Girls' golf took second at the sectional championship, finishing behind Penn and ahead of Marian. The sectional result was good enough to propel the team into regionals, where the ladies finished tied for 11th. A great season with lots of head-to-head victories for the Indians! Congratulations to Katie Kloska and Mackenzie Schmeltz on garnering First Team All-NIC accolades. Additionally, Bella Saratore was honored on the Second Team and Gillian Lippert received Honorable Mention recognition.
Boys' soccer found themselves wrong side of the Holy War in the regular season as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Knights. Saint Joe never stopped battling, but unfortunately could not capitalize on their opportunities. There is a chance for redemption as both Saint Joe and Marian advanced to the sectional championship. Saint Joe disposed of Jimtown by a score of 8-0 before beating Bremen 4-1 to advance. The sectional final will be played on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Marian.

Girls' soccer has been on a tear lately, winning their last four games by a combined score of 33-0, with wins over Marian, Lake Central, Riley, and LaPorte. With their last two victories the Indians earned a berth in the sectional championship against Adams, which takes place Saturday night at Riley, kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
Saint Joe volleyball is really hitting their stride as the season winds down. They are winners of ten of their last thirteen overall. Their four-match winning streak ended as they dropped a contest to Penn, but the team rebounded with a 3-0 win over Washington. Recent success includes wins over Marian, Concord, Jimtown, and Clay. The ladies finished second at the Crown Point tournament with wins over Bishop Luers and Marian (again!). IHSAA sectionals are set to begin on October 17th.
The football team started hot on a chilly Friday night, marching down the field for a touchdown on the first drive of the game against Mishawaka. From then on it was all Cavemen as their option attack controlled the tempo of the game and found the endzone consistently. Saint Joe mounted a late rally which featured some outstanding chemistry between the quarterback and wide receivers, but never got over the final hurdle as they dropped the contest 42-21. The team plays tonight at Culver and finishes their season next Friday at Adams.
You can always visit the  Saint Joe Athletics webpage  for more team news, schedules, and results.
