NSR Purebred Influenced Crossbred Class
Beginning at The 2021 Exposition and National Junior Summer Spectacular and Summer Type Conference, NJSA members have the opportunity to show NSR Purebred Influenced Crossbreds as market (barrows) or breeding animals (gilts).  Additionally, these animals would be eligible to show and be offered for sale in the respective crossbred portions of the open shows at NSR events.
Requirements would include:

  1. A documented parent (sire or dam) that is Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, or Yorkshire. If utilizing a purebred sow, a DNA sample must be submitted to verify parentage. The use of a purebred sire would meet the same sire requirements as members recording a purebred litter.
  2. The animal(s) must be recorded in the NSR Crosscheck Verification Program and documentation provided at the time of check-in.
  3. Animals eligible to show could either be sired by or farrowed by a documented purebred parent. Additionally, animals that may not meet purebred breed eligibility requirements but still maintain a pedigree would be eligible to show in this division (ie. short counting Durocs, off- belted Hampshires)

Junior Awards: NJSA will offer premiums for the Top 5 Purebred Influenced Crossbred Gilts and Barrows. The award structure will be as follows:

Champion- $2000
Reserve Champion- $1500
3 rd Overall- $750
4 th Overall- $500
5 th Overall- $250
(*) Champion and Reserve Gilts will be eligible to automatically enter the sale

Top 5 Animals will be required to pass the parentage requirements outlined to receive premiums.

This new program will provide youth swine exhibitors another opportunity to show swine projects at NJSA events and enhance the value and awareness of purebreds. Furthermore, this initiative increases value and education to NSR members by utilizing purebred genetics in crossbreeding schemes and helps build the crossbred swine registry data base. These animals would also be granted the opportunity to be merchandised during the crossbred sales at NSR events.

Noah Morris Memorial Scholarship
The Noah Morris Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to honor the brief but rewarding life of Noah Morris. Noah was tragically killed in an automobile accident near his home on July 28, 2012.

Noah would have been a junior at Clinton High School where he was active in football and basketball. Noah’s true passion was exhibiting swine. He attended shows locally and across the United States. Noah touched many people with his big heart and amazing smile.

This annual scholarship will be awarded to those recipients who share his passion for showing pigs and wish to pursue a career in agriculture. It is our hope Noah’s dreams will make the scholarship recipient’s dreams come true as well.

The application deadline is Friday, February 14. For more information and to apply, click HERE .
