Message from Marjan de Visser-Lemstra, consultant, trainer and coach for bilingual tweetalig education (tto) at the Schakel College.

Let me introduce myself briefly:
I have been working in education for many years. I started as a language teacher of French and German, also at TTO schools and subsequently active as department leader and training manager. I have been living in the Caribbean for several years now. First on Sint Maarten and recently on Curacao. Here I work on various projects focused on the Dutch language within the Caribbean on behalf of the Taalunie and I support Nuffic for TTO projects in the region.

Since the introduction of TTO at the Schakel College, I am here to supervise teachers and students. TTO is a form of education that is successful worldwide, as it is not only about strengthening languages, but also about global citizenship and personal development.

How do we manage this? Together with the entire team we have held several meetings to see and train how the three pillars: language skills, global citizenship and personal development are addressed in all lessons, so that the students receive education that fits the Aruban context. I attend a lot of lessons and give teachers tips on how to make their lessons even better. Ultimately, we are working towards an Aruban/ Caribbean quality standard for TTO that suits the students of Aruba.

In short: a school in progress, with many activities. Growing towards an Aruban TTO- quality standard is a process that is becoming more and more clear in the years to come. Together with this team, which is committed to providing the students an education that suits them, TTO Aruba will certainly be a success!
