FROM THE DESK OF WENDY YOUNG, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Free PPE available for local physician practices
The State of California is making millions of pieces of medical-grade personal protective equipment (PPE) – including N95 masks, surgical masks, shields, gowns and gloves – available FREE to physician practices. The California Office of Emergency Services is partnering with the Sonoma County Medical Association and the Mendocino Lake County Medical Society and the California Medical Association (CMA) to distribute this equipment to qualifying small and medium sized medical practices.

Over the last several months, many physicians have had to limit hours or close their doors completely because they cannot find the PPE they need to safely keep their offices open. This PPE will help fortify California’s health care infrastructure as we continue to wrestle with the COVID-19 pandemic and issues with the PPE supply chain. PPE Relief kits will include up to a two-month supply (exact amount may vary by practice size and specialty).

This equipment is available to all qualifying physician practices, whether or not they are members. Reserve your PPE by going to cmadocs.org/PPE no later than July 21. PPE will be available for local pickup on Thursday, July 30, 2020 in Santa Rosa. Details regarding the pickup event will be provided as the date nears.

MLCMS practices - You will also receive the same amount of PPE supplies, the issue is will we host a drive through pick up event like we are in Santa Rosa or if we will ship your supplies directly to your offices. Register for your supplies at the same link provided and we will follow up with you for delivery or pick up info. If there is enough of a response from the physicians in the region, we will host a drive through event so we can get your supplies to you quicker.

Deadline: July 21, 2020

Bay Area Medical Societies Write to Governor Concerning
Outbreak at San Quentin

Five Bay Area Medical Societies, representing over 10,000 physician members, submitted a joint letter to Governor Newsom drawing attention to the alarming COVID-19 outbreak at San Quentin state prison. The number of infected, which has passed 1000, has implications for the incarcerated population and the staff at San Quentin, and for the capacity of the local hospitals to which many of these patients have been transferred. The letter calls attention to recommendations and requests made by the County of Marin Board of Supervisors, among others. You can view the joint letter here.

The Department of Health Services welcomes your feedback and questions as the County explores the possibility of placing a measure on the ballot to protect mental and behavioral health services in our community. Please contact Leah Benz at (707) 565-6614 with any questions or comments.
