Monserate Winery's groundbreaking: In 2020, but when, oh, when? See below for details!

=================================

HAPPY 2020 to everyone who loves Gird Valley and North SD County!

Last time we emailed you in the Fall of 2019, we noted we would be working on finishing up the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process for Monserate Winery's building. Whew! What a lot of documents were filed with the State and County! Beyond the commitment of the owner's time and money to get through this daunting process, fully 12 separate State agencies were involved focusing on fully 28 areas. Additionally staff at the County were heavily involved and even Supervisor Desmond and his office engaged.

Comments on the CEQA documents closed December 23 so thank you to those who took the time to read all the reports and submit positive letters on the findings. Residents of Gird Valley, and others in North County, were overwhelmingly supportive of Monserate Winery's plans as they are in keeping with the rural values of the area. As a result, t he County's Planning and Development Services office has issued a supportive ruling (a negative declaration).

Everything now moves to the final layer of approvals and, yes, a few more meetings. If you're up for joining us at a meeting, speaking or waving a sign showing your support, please contact us!

We hope to send an email very soon inviting everyone to the 2020 Ground Breaking ceremony!

In the meantime, we do have some legal fees related to the CEQA process so if you can help with a contribution to SaveGirdValley.com, that would be much appreciated.

IMPORTANT: Save Our Countryside's VOTE YES on Measure A
We also want to invite you to a meeting at the Fallbrook Library, 6 PM on January 30th. Mark Jackson and others will be talking about the Save Our Countryside's VOTE YES on Measure A campaign, to be voted on in the March 3, 2020 election. Very important for you to be there!

For more info, see Save Our Countryside's VOTE YES on Measure A (click on the tab to the right for links to media reports and a flyer for sharing) and their Facebook page which has updated news articles.

Additionally, here are links to two great commentaries published by The Times of San Diego and the Village News.

In closing...
As we watch the vines grow, mature and fill with fruit this year, we will ponder the empty spot where the new building will stand, asking ourselves, "So, when, oh, when, will that be?"

With all the paperwork finally done and the owners moving on to the final few meetings and design work, we look forward to them building the structure and to finally focusing on running the business and making a living!
We will gather in 2020 to celebrate the official groundbreaking with Supervisor Jim Desmond and everyone else who has spent years working to make this project a reality and to saving Gird Valley!

In 2021, we'll be inside the gorgeous new building and, with a glass of beer or wine (Monserate Winery, vintage 2019?), we'll toast to the perseverance of our neighborhood, t o our beautiful Gird Valley!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone working to create a strong community in Gird Valley, to revitalize and preserve this special little valley!

We look forward to seeing you at 6 PM January 30 at the Fallbrook Library's Community Room for the VOTE YES on Measure A presentation and at Monserate Winery's groundbreaking (to be announced soon)!
