A Message from Rich and Mike
Dear BK Parents and Students,

We pray that you are all staying safe and healthy. It has been wonderful to have so many of our student-athletes back on campus for safe summer workouts after almost three months away from school. And we look forward to seeing many of our incoming students at our first Summer Boot Camp session which starts on Monday.

There are three very important events this coming week - Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation on Friday and Saturday, and a Virtual Town Hall about our fall plans on Wednesday. These are the focus of today’s email. We also want to provide an update on enrollment for 2020-21.

Please know you and your families continue to be in our prayers. We hope to “see” many of you at our Virtual Town Hall this Wednesday!

God Bless!

Important Information about Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation
Hooray! Governor Little announced yesterday that Idaho has moved into Phase 4 of his “Rebound Idaho” plan for opening up the state commencing this Saturday, June 13th! This allows “gatherings of more than 50 people, with appropriate physical distancing and precautionary measures” - which is exactly what we will have for Baccalaureate Mass on Friday, June 19th at 7:00 PM, and Graduation on Saturday, June 20th at 8:00 pm!

In order for our Class of 2020 Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Ceremony to be as safe as possible for all in attendance, we are allowing each graduate to include 5-6 guests, and asking that you limit guests to people who live in the same household(s) as the graduate.

All senior parents, please help us provide adequately spaced seating by RSVPing for each event. Even if you will NOT be attending Baccalaureate Mass or Graduation, please submit an RSVP by today, Friday, June 12th.

Additional friends and family who cannot attend Mass or the Graduation ceremony in person will be able to watch both events LIVE on our BK YouTube Channel. These will be professionally produced broadcasts. Use these links to tune in!

Please help us maintain proper social distancing while we are in Nick Ysursa Stadium for Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation.

Parents and Guests Entering Nick Ysursa Stadium (YELLOW ARROWS)
Parents and guests will enter the stadium through the main entrance and student entrance. If your graduate is sitting in the A Group, you will want to use the ramp on the north side of the bleachers to enter the seats. If your graduate is sitting in the B Group, you will walk behind the bleachers to the ramp at the south end and enter the seats from there.

Graduates will know where they will be seated after practice on Friday morning.

Seating in the Bleachers will be marked with tape in order to keep family groups appropriately distanced. Please sit within the taped sections.

Wheelchairs - Guests in wheelchairs will be seated in the ADA Accessible spots in the front row of the bleachers. Ushers will help you to your seats. Please let Mrs. Herrera know if you have a guest who needs wheelchair accomodations by Monday.

Graduates Exiting Nick Ysursa Stadium (BLACK ARROWS)
Graduates seated in the A Group with process out of the stadium to the north, where they can meet their families in the parking lot, or on the north end of the Soccer field.

Graduates seated in the B Group with process out of the stadium to the south, where they can meet their families on the practice field or on the south end of the Soccer field.

Parents and Guests Exiting the Bleachers/Stadium (RED ARROWS)
After Mass/Graduation, parents and guests are asked to wait for ushers to help the guests in wheelchairs exit the bleachers. Then, ushers will release parents and guests to leave. Please leave the bleachers via the stairs (marked by red arrows) that take you behind the bleachers. (Do not use the ramps to exit.) Once you are out of the bleachers please exit the stadium the same way the graduates exited (A Group to the north, B Group to the south) and meet your graduate on either the practice filed, the soccer field, or in the parking lot.

If you need to use the restrooms during Mass or the ceremony, please use the stairs to exit the bleachers, and then use the ramps to return to your seat.

**In addition to social distancing, masks are strongly encouraged at both Mass and Graduation.**
Virtual Town Hall Meeting to discuss the 2020 - 2021 School Instructional Plan
Thank you to the 602 of our parents who completed the Fall 2020 BK Parent Survey. Your feedback was incredibly helpful in understanding your needs and preferences for the 2020-21 school year. We have been hard at work integrating your feedback and that of our students, and our faculty and staff. We believe that the 2020-2021 instructional model we are developing is innovative, creative and agile. And we are anxious to share it with you and gain your feedback in a Virtual Town Hall Meeting this coming Wednesday evening .

As a reminder, the goals we have for the 2020-21 school year are the following:
  • Make the learning experience exceptional for all BK students and faculty & staff
  • Build a plan that provides flexibility, adaptability and options for our students, faculty/staff and our school
  • Keep our students, faculty/staff and community safe and healthy
  • Engage our parents and community as partners to the overall learning experience of our students

We will describe our plan to meet these goals in greater detail during the Virtual Town Hall meeting, but the key is that the 2020-2021 instructional plan rests on three main pillars:
  1. All students on campus
  2. Safe distancing in all face-to-face classrooms
  3. Rethink and maximize usage of all physical space on campus

The Virtual Town Hall meeting will be this coming Wednesday, June 17th, at 6:30 pm Via Zoom . Your feedback on our plan will be critical as we will be bringing our 2020-21 plan for approval to the BK Board of Governance the following Monday, June 22nd.

To attend the Virtual Town Hall, you must register
by Noon on Wednesday, June 17th.
The Zoom Link will only be shared with registered attendees.

Please also know that if you cannot make that time, the Virtual Town Hall meeting will be recorded and available on the bk.org website on Thursday, June 18th .

Enrollment for the 2020-2021 School Year
This new 2020-2021 instructional plan requires us to increase our expenses significantly as we will need to hire five additional teachers, ask several current teachers to increase their workload, and invest in some IT, equipment, and furniture. The key to being able to afford this plan is to keep our enrollment at the level of 865. We believe strongly that this new plan gives us the best opportunity to do just that.

Currently we have 865 students enrolled and here is the breakdown by class:
  • Freshmen 236
  • Sophomores 225
  • Juniors 234
  • Seniors 170
  • Total 865

It is not uncommon for BK to lose a handful of currently registered students over the summer for a variety of reasons. You can help us to maintain our healthy enrollment for fall by sharing your BK experience with friends who do not have students currently enrolled at BK.

Please encourage anyone you know whom you feel would benefit from a BK education, is a good fit in our BK Way culture, and may be frustrated with their current situation, to check out Bishop Kelly (contact Kelly Shockey, BK Director of Admissions at kshockey@bk.org or (208)375-6010). You are our greatest ambassadors! Please help us spread the word that BK has room in the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes, and we have generous financial aid to help families in need. When we all work together, this community achieves great things!
