Models of Collaboration is part of the Zaff Memorial Presidents' Leadership Forum, which provides a community of practice and training opportunities for synagogue leaders.

On May 26, 2020, Synagogue Council hosted a webinar, Opening our Synagogues during which three public health experts discussed this timely topic. We are profoundly grateful to our distinguished panel, Ethan Mascoop, Dr. Bruce Weinstock, Dr. Wendy Heiger-Bernays and Dr. Jonathan Slutzman for their time and their outstanding, engaging, clear and fact-filled presentation. Feedback from participants indicated that they highly valued this webinar and would be very interested in an update during the summer. The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) has created a portal for purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). To purchase PPE, please

The Synagogue Council of Massachusetts (SCM) is pleased to provide an extension for the AREV MA Initiative to July 16, 2020. AREV MA distributes three grants of $1,800 each to support the development of innovative programming for young leaders of any gender (ages 22-45) and/or women's mentorship and leadership in congregations throughout the state. The endeavor furthers SCM's mission to support congregations as vital centers of Jewish life.
This year, given the challenges of navigating a new reality resulting from Covid-19, Synagogue Council has expanded our AREV MA (Anita Redner Empowerment Vehicle) grants to provide support for new initiatives that seek to strengthen Jewish community or to address the needs of the vulnerable or those under-served due to the necessity to access Jewish community through virtual experiences. A case may also be made for requests that support innovations stimulated by Covid-19 that enhance Jewish community and/or strengthen leadership.
The AREV MA Initiative honors the legacy of Anita Redner, who had an immeasurable impact on the Boston Jewish community.

Daf Yomi

A Page of Talmud - Sunday evenings...from home...Join us for single days or for the rest of the series.
With social distancing keeping us at home, we want to invite you to participate in a Torah-study program that you just might find interesting and that you can join from home. Each Sunday evening, a group of adults of varying Jewish backgrounds joins together to study the daily page of Talmud (Daf Yomi). The group, which has been meeting for years at the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts offices and for a series of years at Temple Emanual in Newton, now gathers over Zoom. Each week, we "tune in" to the same page of Talmud being studied around the world by thousands of others. The class is led by SCM former president Dr. Jesse Hefter of Brookline. The class is led in English and requires no prior experience. There is no charge for the class, just an invitation that you consider trying out the program for a Sunday evening, online, from 7:30-8:30 PM. Hebrew classes for adults from the comfort of your home with the best teachers and the most advanced technology. Each of our classes has a special Israeli flavor and interactive environment. This is also a great way to meet other like-minded adults from across the state. Classes will be in 3 levels: Level 1 - start building your modern Hebrew skills via conversations. Level 2 - practice, advance and have conversations in Hebrew. Level 3 - talk only in Hebrew to increase your Hebrew vocabulary. Classes start June 16 & 18.
