walkorrunCooper House Receives Donation

Thanks to a donation from Geekway to the West, Cooper House will soon be well-stocked with board games, storage cabinets, a larger activity table, and a projector with sound system for movie night!

Geekway to the West
is an annual four-day gathering of board game lovers. It takes place in St. Charles with over 3,000 attendees, making it the largest gathering of its kind in the United States. DOORWAYS was selected as one of the St. Louis organizations to receive a portion of the profits from the event. "We are excited to support DOORWAYS' mission of housing, health, and hope. We hope that the games and supplies that are provided with this gift bring happy smiles to your residents and clients," noted Jay Moore, M.D. -- DOORWAYS Board Chair and a Geekway to the West partner.

JumpstartSchoolFriends In Deed Meet-Up at Up/Down

Several members of DOORWAYS' Friends in Deed group sponsored a Meet-Up at Up/Down arcade bar in the Central West End recently.  Members played games, tried the pizza offerings, and enjoyed adult beverages.

DOORWAYS' Friends in Deed is a group dedicated to the future success of DOORWAYS. Among its goals are: increase awareness of the DOORWAYS mission; enhance the DOORWAYS volunteer base; build future leadership; and create additional revenue through fundraising events.

NNOMeet Our New Intern

DOORWAYS has been fortunate to host a service intern for the past four years through a partnership with the Disciples of Christ and their XPLOR program. This year's intern, William Brickhouse, comes to us from Lynchburg, Virginia, and is deeply passionate about social services.

As with our previous interns, William will spend nearly 30 hours a week shadowing staff and providing support to many of our programs. During the next 10 months, William's goal is to see all aspects of running a nonprofit and assist in creating a memorable experience that adds to his resume.

William is a huge baseball fan and enjoyed his first Cardinal's game at our DOORWAYS Night at the Ballpark earlier this month. Welcome to DOORWAYS and St. Louis, William!
HealthiestEmployeer2019 Healthiest Employer Award

DOORWAYS was named as a finalist for the 2019 Healthiest Employers Awards presented by the St. Louis Business Journal. Over 100 local employers were nominated for the honor.  DOORWAYS was one of only five finalists in the small employer category. DOORWAYS was recognized for its year-round efforts to promote wellness, including weight loss competitions, walk/run challenges, a smoking cessation campaign, and constant promotion of our employee assistance program (EAP). Staff are encouraged to participate and receive paid time off, gift cards, fitness trackers, and reduced insurance premiums as incentives.

DOORWAYS' wellness programs began more than six years ago as a means to encourage healthy living. Since its inception, staff have lost more than 400 pounds and walked more than 5,100 miles.
