Oakland Park Latin Fest This Friday Evening
At Jaco Pastorius Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Oakland Park Latin Fest celebrates Latin culture through food, drink, music, and dance Friday evening (September 20) at Jaco Pastorius Park, 4000 N. Dixie Highway.

This free community cultural event from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. features live music headlined by the Cache band with lots of dancing and other entertainment, including children's activities.

Latin Fest food court will feature traditional Latin American restaurants from Oakland Park:
 
  • El Guanaco, featuring a traditional Pig Roast
  • La Empanada Loca
  • Tijuana Flats
  • Lazo Empanadas
  • Leo's Gourmet Frozen Treats
  • Cash bar 

Cache Latin Band and Art of Salsa dance school will provide the entertainment.

Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month Bilingual Story Time
At Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library
Wednesday, September 25 at 10 a.m.

In this fun and interactive show, Señorita Marci takes her young audience on a trip to Mexico exposing children to Hispanic culture with dance, storytelling and magic.

Children will hear and repeat words and phrases in Spanish and become familiar with their meanings. All ages welcome.

Community Garden Beds Available for New Growing Season

The Oakland Park Community Garden at Jaco Pastorius Park is now accepting registrations for the fall and winter seasons. Resident rates are $89 and non-resident rates are $99.
  
The gardening season runs through the end of May. Our long growing season provides gardeners a terrific opportunity to perfect their gardening skills and grow some delicious, organic produce.
  
Register with the City's Parks and Leisure Department located in City Hall or call 954-630-4500 .
  
Your registration includes: 
  • Garden Bed
  • Soil
  • Water
  • Garden Tea (on weekends)  
  • Plants for sale at the garden center
  • Saturday Classes – The Talk@Ten - The 4th Saturday at 10 a.m. is the South Florida Beekeepers Association.  
  • Seeds, Plant Nutrients and Supplements, and Pest Management Tips  
  • 7 day-a-week access to the Community Garden 
  • Garden opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.
  • Garden activities and social events
